Do you like ladybugs? Well, if you do, read on because this is the spot!

     Over time I have learned that we have many special residents in our garden that will help us protect the plants and flowers that my husband and I have worked so hard to grow.  My friends are the tinny spotted bugs you find out and about in most yards. Let me tell you a little bit about how I first met the helpful creatures......;).

          A few years ago I had some problems with aphids (those nasty little things that suck the life out of your plants). So I bought a bag of ladybugs to take care of the aphids. That started my love affair with my friends. To try to keep the ladies in my yard from flying away, I would feed them aphids. Yes, feed them! I'd get a toothpick, stab an aphid with it and take it over for a ladybug to eat. Sometimes when I'd pull the toothpick away from the ladybug, the aphid would stay on the pick and the ladybug would hold on to it for dear life while clinging to the branch she was on, (not wanting to lose her tasty treat). We would have a tug-of-war for a while because nobody wanted to lose the toothpick. After a while I'd declare defeat and leave the pick with the aphid stuck on it so the ladybug could finish her well deserved meal.
            I also had some Praying Mantis (which I also happen to like very much) in my yard. Once in a while I would find them having a Ladybug for a snack and I was sad to see this happen, but I know that this is the way of life in the garden, (although I wish my friends could just get along)....sigh.

And remember, lady beetles are handy. They work hard at keeping the yard free from the nasty aphids. And they are soooo cute!. To keep them in your garden avoid using bug spray and also remember to water the leaves of your plants so the ladybugs can have a drink of H2O....;).
Finally and just in case you wanted to know. My name is Eva and I just happen to like ladybugs so much that I want everyone to know more about them. That's why I made this page to help my favorite bug.....;). Now a little info. about myself. I live in Los Angeles area with my husband Allen and our vegetables eater dogs Luna and Sugar. We have a small yard where we all love to spend time looking at the flowers and making vegetables grow big and tasty, yummy!!
