1. Offer our services to orphan wildlife rescued on or around Lake Anna.
2. Pass on some wildlife saving facts.
3. How you can become a wildlife rehabilitator.
4. And a story or two.
Want to save some otherwise? It's easy as one, two, three. 1) Drive slower on the back country roads, less injury and death to everybody. 2) KEEP dogs and cats from running loose, the #1 enemy of birds and small animals. 3) Whenever possible put a baby bird back in the nest, or leave small animals alone, without cats around, for awhile and see if the mother comes and moves the animal. They won't reject it if they can manage to care for it. They can do a better job than us.
Bird Traps: Received call bird distressed in open garage, I responded to find a wren firmly
attached to one of those sticky pads used to catch mice. After much ado, finally the bird was free
of the pad. After a few minutes of picking sticky stuff from the feet and legs, the wren escaped
and flew away, presumed ok. Moral: keep garage doors closed even if there is no harmful material
there, birds get flustered in a building and kill themselves. Screened in porches with doors open
are a trap also, rescued a ruby throat hummingbird on porch wrapped in spider web, removed web
hummed away.
We can be reached at 540-894-4400 or 872-4344. PLEASE, Lake Anna area animals only!! Other rehabilitators my be found by calling your local game warden.
