About Me So, you want to know more about me, huh? Well, I could tell you where I was born but that would probably bore you. I have had what some might consider to be a rather challenging life but I have always believed adversity makes a person stronger and strong I am! I have managed to cope with everything thrown my way and not only survived it but remain upbeat and generally happy! Heck, some even call me "perky"! LOL My many interests include animals (especially cats!), computers, graphics, internet games, socializing online and off, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and giving people a reason to laugh at me. I am a medical assistant by trade but have been disabled since 1992 with multiple sclerosis. It was diagnosed in 1984, the year I was married. My husband discovered cocaine after one year of marriage and eventually chose the drugs over me (his loss). My Mom died on Halloween, 1999, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and my Dad is a prostate cancer survivor . He is 75 and still golfs, bowls and skis! I have two older brothers, a sister-in-law, and two beautiful nieces. Shortly after I stopped working, I invested in a computer with the hopes of finding some work I could do out of my home. It wasn't long before I discovered the online world and became an instant addict! I have met so many wonderful people and even volunteered for America Online for two-and-a-half years. 1997 was very good to me. That was the year I got my implanted Medtronic drug pump, which delivers baclofen to my spinal fluid. It relieves the spasticity and associated muscle spasms and pain due to MS. It got me out of my wheelchair and off my crutches! It was the most miraculous thing I have ever experienced in my life! In contrast, 1998 was not a good year. I had problems with insomnia and started having episodes that were thought to be panic attacks but they were lasting up to 12 hours at a time, not characteristic of the condition. I was eventually diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. Once on treatment for that, the panic/anxiety symptoms slowly dissipated. But that wasn't all that was in store for me that year. In July of 1998 I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 41. What a roller coaster ride that has been! Links to my ongoing journal and other resources can be found on my Breast Cancer Page. Right now, I am taking time for me, having fun, working on my web site, and healing myself. Feel free to look around... there's a lot of information here!
