PAUL SPEER
COMMENTS FROM FELLOW MUSICIANS AND FRIENDS |
| "I met Paul Speer back in early 1994 when I was considering the concept and idea for Musicians Network. Our first meeting we had lunch at a Thai Restaurant in Bellevue WA. and had a good discussion about his experiences in music and also his experience on the Board of Directors with NAMA (Northwest Area Music Association... now defunct). He also gave me some feedback about the albums I had released at that time, "Drive 55" and "The
Traffic Jam Suite".
Since then we have kept in touch and visit and talk on the phone or meet periodically. Paul has been a guest speaker at Musicians Network meetings here in Seattle, speaking on production topics. His experience and knowledge in music as a musician and producer made for several very successful meetings.
I saw Paul in concert once with the Lanz and Speer concert here in Seattle at the Paramount... and it was an excellent concert, and yes... he is as good a guitar player live as he is on his records!
I personally think Paul is one of the best producers in this business. His clean style and meticulous attention to every aspect of the recording always results in an exceptional quality album... no matter what style he is producing.
We are planning an interview with Paul to be taped and added to the Musicians Network web site in the future to discuss his latest ideas and musical developments. Our Musicians Network Music Magazine features his column titled "In The Studio", which appears courtesy of Rockrgrl Magazine."
"May his successful and talented career continue far into the future!"

"Paul and I spent many hours in the studio over the last decade or so but I remember Paul mostly in that environment. We spent so much time making records that we didn't do much else together. However, after a few glasses of wine, Paul does one of the best Ed Sullivan's you will ever see. We were at a local NW awards show once (89 or 90) and we were given an award for best new age band or something and I introduced Paul as a channeler and he became "Ed". It was hilarious. The mostly rock crowd wasn't sure what to think of us. Paul also got very into race car driving a few years back and took first place in his division. Shortly after that he totaled his car and has cooled his heels. His girlfriend was I am sure very supportive of that!!" David Lanz, Recording Artist |

"Working with Paul was a great experience. Most of the things I know about recording I learned from watching and studying Paul's studio techniques during our "Changing Rhythm" recording sessions. His attention to the smallest detail of mic placement, EQ, effects, and
spatial imaging was particularly impressive." Scott Lindenmuth, Recording Artist |
"Paul Speer is one of the nicest guys I know. Not only is he passionate about music but he is also committed to sharing his encyclopedia-like knowledge with others. Paul has always been a driving force in the Seattle music community. He helped to bring the Recording Academy to the Northwest and has worked with some of the area's recording legends from Sir Mix-A-Lot to Scott Rockenfield.
Personally speaking, Paul is always lots of fun to be around and every time I see him, it's a memorable occasion. He has very definite opinions and standards about everything! But more often than not, he's right on the money. Paul is as generous as he is charming. I'm proud to have his contributions in ROCKRGRL (an often thankless job) and I'm proud to call him my friend."
