I am in the process of transcribing Land and Property deed indexes for the years 1818-1876 in Lawrence Co., OH. You will see I have them indexed as follows:

GRANTOR; GRANTEE; Vol.#, Pg.#; Date. And also indexes with GRANTEE/GRANTOR, Vol.#, Pg.# and date. Grantor is one who is selling land, and Grantee is the one who is buying the land. Land Records can be very valuable and may give you the information you have been searching for. It not only provides where the land was and the date, it may also give a relationship of those in the deeds. Once you find the individual you are looking for in these indexes you need to find the actual deed, which you can order through your local Family History Center, through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which will be listed in your local phone book. You can also access these records at the Lawrence Co., OH Court House.
