November 2001 Newsletter

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We are happy to announce that Kim Churchill, the ConvaTec representative, will be with us at our November 20th meeting. Kim is well versed in ostomy and ostomy supplies. She can answer many questions for us. This is one meeting you do not want to miss.

“Change is inevitable except from vending machines.”

We had three members absent from our October meeting due to health problems; Dorothy and John Hall, Richard and Betty Sullivan, and Charles Langston. Charles' wife Grace was in attendance. We hope that all are doing better and will be able to attend the November meeting.

“One of the hardest jobs is to keep up with the easy payments.”

The Gibson Pharmacy store, on Lee Blvd in Lawton, has a large section stocked with ostomy supplies. And if they don't have in stock what you need, be sure to ask because they are happy to order it for you. If you are in the area, you might want to check it out. Also, be sure to visit their website at http://gibsonpharmacyleeblvd.com/ where you may order your prescription refills.

“Old is when getting lucky means finding your car in the parking lot.”

“Old is when you are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by the police.”

Dr. Gott answers medical questions by readers of “The Weatherford,TX Democrat.”

Dear Dr. Gott: Is it safe for me to depend on oil-based laxatives for my chronic constipation?

Dear Reader: No, it isn’t. Oil-based laxatives can lead to dependence. What you may need is an occasional stimulant that is devoid of side effects. I recommend that you consider old-fashioned Milk of Magnesia or, if you choose, stool softeners such as Colace. In my opinion, you should avoid laxatives that may, in reality, worsen your bowel problem.

Dear Dr. Gott: I’m a 38-year-old mother with situs inversus. Should this affect my health?

Dear Reader: Situs inversus means that organs ordinarily located on the left side of your body are positioned on the right. For example, the heart is customarily to the left of the midline; in situs inversus, the heart is on the right side of the chest. This genetic condition does not cause health problems.

“Look at what you have left instead of what you haven’t got.”

There are nine good things for which no one has ever been sorry:
  • For doing good to all.
  • For speaking evil of no one.
  • For hearing before judging.
  • For holding an angry tongue.
  • For being kind to the distressed.
  • For asking pardon for all wrongs.
  • For being patient toward everybody.
  • For stopping the ear to the tale bearer.
  • For disbelieving the most of evil reports.

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can’t find them, make them.

-George Bernard Shaw

L.M. BOYD-TRIVIA AND FUN FACTS

Body parts: Am now advised by the medical experts that 95 percent of your body weight is comprised of parts that could be replaced by synthetic substitutes.

The otter always eats its fish ashore.

Everybody has seen deer or photos of same, but hardly anybody can tell you whether a buck’s antlers are in front if its ears or behind them. In front.

Best writer --

Q. Among U.S. presidents, who was the best writer?

A. Abraham Lincoln without a doubt.

In Siberia’s region of Yakutia, the temperature falls as low as minus 58 degrees F sometimes, and sometimes rises as high as 100 degrees F. No other natural place on earth has a greater temperature range.

There are more unmarried men in French Guiana than in any other country in the world. And you can say the same for unmarried women. Wait, read that back.

In 1850 --

Some year, 1850. Levi invented his blue jeans, the Navy stopped flogging sailors, Pinkerton opened a detective agency, Dickens came out with “David Copperfield,” Bunsen dreamed up his burner, Folger offered coffee you didn’t have to roast and grind yourself, Tennyson wrote “’Tis better to have loved and lost...”, and Napoleon ate his first tomato.

    Recipe For Happiness

  • Take 2 heaping cups of patience
  • 1 heartful of love
  • 2 handsful of generosity
  • Dash of laughter
  • 1 headful of understanding
  • Sprinkle generously with kindness
  • Add plenty of faith and mix well.
  • Spread over a period of a lifetime
  • And serve everybody you meet.

There were several attachments to the November newsletter that will be available soon.

See you at our November 20th meeting, at the ACS building.
