West Roxbury Neighborhood Council
Meeting Minutes – September
26, 2006
Comella’s Restaurant 1844 Centre Street
Brothers J.P. and Matt Comella of Comella's, an Italian restaurant
currently with two locations -- West Newton and Wellesley, are looking to open a third
location at the former Yankee Copy, 1844
Centre Street. They met with the WRNC to discuss their plans and get feedback. This
family run restaurant has no intention of applying for a beer or wine license. They will require a common victuallers (food
only) license. A large percentage of the
expected business will be take-out. They
plan to be open from 11:00 a.m.
until 9:00 p.m. seven days
a week.
A motion to
recommend the Licensing Board approves a common victualler’s license for
Comella’s at 1844 Centre Street
passed unanimously.
New Area E Police Captain James Hasson
Members of the Neighborhood
Council and meeting attendees welcomed Captain Hasson to West Roxbury. Captain
Hasson was previously at the Area B station in Roxbury. He plans to continue the work of his
predecessors at West Roxbury. Issues he has had to deal with since arriving
include teenage youth around Billings Field and Catholic Memorial
High School, and traffic
enforcement.
Council members requested that the Captain have someone in
his command periodically provide the Neighborhood
Council with police reports.
Captain Hasson stated that he was expecting a new computer program that
will provide up to date police reports and statistics and that he would share
the information with the Neighborhood Council.
Committee Reports
Zoning
At a meeting of the Zoning Advisory Committee held on September 20, 2006, the
Committee considered the following proposals and reports as follows:

sign at the new car wash. The owner
worked with the local neighborhood on the sign placement and lighting. The sign will be three feet by ten feet and be

APPROVAL
A motion to recommend approval passed unanimously.
New Business
Gordon Woods
Gordon Woods is a condominium project proposed for the
location of the old Star of David Nursing home at 1100 VFW Parkway. The plan includes 42 units housed in three,
four story buildings. Cars will enter
and exit from VFW Parkway. The project has been approved by the Boston
Redevelopment Authority. Work is
expected to start this spring.
Thanks to Ryan Fitzgerald of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services
Ryan was thanked by two residents who live on Libby Street for
his help with a variance issue and by another attendee for getting the volume
of the locator tone for the crosswalk buttons at Corey and Centre turned down. This is not the walk signal tone, it is a locator
tone that constantly beeps and was loud enough to be heard from the resident’s
back porch.
