Law Enforcement Gays And Lesbians International (LEGAL International)
is pleased to announce the formation of:
Legal-list, the LEGAL International mail and discussion list.
This list will be replacing the legalemail@aol.com list
We are up and running on a solid 24 hour a day server maintained by Roger K of
Queernet.org. which uses Majordomo software to handle mail distribution
automatically, with very little work required on your part other than to
subscribe to the list, by following the directions which are printed below.
LEGAL-LIST
~~~~~~~~~~
These are general guidelines which will continue to develop as the list
grows.
I have neither the time nor the capability to certify who the members of
this list are. This list is established to foster communication and as such
is unmoderated. By the same token, we will not tolerate any form of
hate-mongering of or by any list members. You can only post to the list if
you are subscribed. You will be unsubscribed if you violate this one simple
rule.
TOPICS
~~~~~~
Discussion should be focused on criminal justice/law enforcement issues as
they relate to gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered people.
We also encourage discussion that relates to organizing efforts and
problems being encountered by local lgbt criminal justice groups.
This list is intended as a safe place for discussion of topics not
generally well tolerated or appreciated on other criminal justice or police
lists.
It is not a dating service.

INTRODUCTIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just like moving into a new house/apartment, it helps to know who your
neighbors are. I invite everyone to submit a brief description of who they
are, where they work, years of service, areas of expertise or interest,
what gay law enforcemnt group(s) you belong to, and what you would like to
see discussed here, etc. The idea is to give a snapshot that others can use
as we begin to feel our way around this new space.
POSTING MESSAGES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anything sent tolegal-list@queernet.org will be forwarded to the entire
membership of the list.
CONFIDENTIALITY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Majordomo maintains a list of names and e-mail addresses of all
subscribers. There are only TWO PEOPLE with access to this list. The owner
of Queernet and me, the list administrator (legal-list- approval@queernet.org). So your
subscription here is fairly anonymous. When you post a message, other list
members will be able to see your e-mail address.
RE-POSTING
~~~~~~~~~~
It is general net etiquette to not re-post private e-mail to a list without
permission of the sender. In the case of this list, if you see something
that you think would be of interest to a non-list member I would ask that
you think before re-posting anything which contains an identfiable e-mail
address header.
You have 2 options:
A) Request permission of the original sender to repost {which can be time
consuming}
B) Re-post with NO HEADER and a statement such as: This was written by
someone on legal-list and I am reposting (or forwarding) because I
thought you might be interested in the material.
PLEASE be conscious of people's desire and need for confidentiality and/or
anonymity !
