Notes: This Persian rug represents the history of the old Persian empire as it was
told through it's poetry. There is alot of stories being told through it
pictures, so bare with me. The borders show the different styles of poets and
poetry and if you look closely you will notice that the border is like a book in
itself. The bottom of the rug shows the figures of biblical figures of Moses and
Abraham. The middle of the Tabriz rug depicts an ancient Persian love story and the
everyday life of the peasants in the old Persia. The top of the rug shows the
first Shah of Persia on a horse looking for his soon to be wife (who seems to be
posing for the ancestor of the Playboy magazine). The condition of this Persian rug is
excellent and there are no defects that we know of. This is one of several
Persian rugs
that were sold in Iran by a private party and became part of our collection many
years ago. Unfortunately, these type of historical Persian rugs are pretty much a thing
of the past and it is rare to find one like it in this great condition.
