Site displays posters from the Food Administration During
World War I. Herbert Hoover, as head of the new U.S.
Food Administration, convinced Americans to conserve food during the War.
Homeowners were urged to sign pledge cards to conserve food. Many observed

In December of 1777, General Washington led 12,000 men into
Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, for a 6-month encampment while the British camped
20 miles away in Philadelphia. Nearly 2,000 American soldiers died of disease
during the severe winter.
