The Good Neighbor Health Clinic Canaan
Satellite (GNHCCS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free
primary health care to persons in need without regard to their age, ethnicity,
sexual orientation or gender.

MASCOMA CLINIC
is a medical student-led effort to expand the services – and spirit – of the
Good Neighbor Clinic (http://goodneighborhealthclinic.org) to the Mascoma Valley region of New Hampshire. For many
years, Good Neighbor recognized that a population of uninsured residents of
Mascoma Valley had unmet medical needs due to geographic distance from the
Lebanon/WRJ/Hanover area.
Mascoma Clinic has provided these essential health care and social services to
this population since 2003 through the dedication of medical student and DHMC
physician volunteers as well as through the generous support from the Upper
Valley community.
Teams of Dartmouth Medical School students and local physicians operate a free
clinic once or twice monthly as a satellite office of the GNHC in a local
pediatrics office in Canaan, NH. Students, physicians and patients work together
as a team in addressing the medical and psychosocial needs of the patient and
promote community spirit and health in the Upper Valley.
Mascoma Clinic is open on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every
month for Primary Care services.
Please call our parent clinic, The Good Neighbor Health Clinic, for an
appointment – (802) 295-1868. Office hours are Monday -
Friday 9 - 5.
CLINIC DATES 2007:

Tips on Grocery Shopping, by Stephanie R.
Murphy, DMS I
Grocery shopping can be a harrowing experience
– you fight the crowds for a decent parking space, try to remember what you
needed to buy, and race through the isles, trying not to mow down screaming
children with your grocery carriage. But if you’re a smart shopper, you can
easily buy healthy groceries that will influence you to make good food choices
all week. Here are five tips to get started...
Tips on Diet and Exercise, by James Town, DMS II
Living in the Upper Valley can make it difficult to engage in
a regular exercise plan. But daily exercise is important to all aspects of your
health, and health experts are recommending that people exercise at least 30
minutes a day! As busy as we all are these days, it can be hard to find ways to
exercise, but it’s not impossible. Click here to read
tips on Diet and Exercise.
20 Nov 2006: First Annual Mascoma Flu Shot Clinic
Armed with a box full of syringes and 160 doses of live flu virus,
the Mascoma Clinic offered its first Flu Shot Clinic. The shots were
administered by four intrepid DMS students (Dan Kaser, Jessica Morgan, James
Town and Kristen Yurkerwich) and a local pediatrician, Dr. Bill Boyle. The
Clinic took place in the same location as the bi-weekly Mascoma Clinics – in the
generously borrowed office space of the Mascoma Pediatrics Group (the office of
Dr. Boyle). We had advertised in the community through the inexhaustible efforts
of Bob Asselin (lead recruiter, community representative, Good Neighbor Board
Member and All-Around Good Soul) by putting up flyers and talking with local
community members, organizations and church groups.
The Flu Shot Clinic took place for a few hours on the evening of November 20, an
alternate off-week from the normal clinic. The flu shots were available without
appointment and patients trickled in steadily throughout the night. In all, 15
shots were dispensed, not a bad effort for our first go at it. We hope to repeat
this event in the future and continue to expand the services of the Mascoma
Clinic; a CPR certification course is being planned for early 2007 – email us
for more details.
