January 1st  2000:   Grenning Models announces our latest undertaking: A 1/3rd scale Special Electric Lighting 5 HP Otto.

Details:

- This engine will be about 22" long (not including the wood base) and weigh in the vicinity of 125 pounds.

- Construction will be Iron, Bronze & Brass Casting including high alloy steel shafting for items like the side shaft and Crank shaft.

- 1.750" x 3.5"  Bore and Stroke

- Flywheels 16" in Diameter

- This model will retain the uniqueness of the full size counterpart including fuel injection, fuel pump, and lead balanced flywheels

- This will be the most detailed and refined engine model we have ever offered.  Details like the bowl shaped Lonergan oiler and 2 tone paint with pin stripping will be incorporated.

- A production time frame is not yet defined.

February 3rd, 2000

- Engineering work for the 1/3 scale Otto is well under way.  Within 2 months the first pattern will be made.

- The design work of Woody Sins (click here for woody's web page) has allowed the engineering of this job to be done concurrently with the production efforts of other engines.

Woody is a degreed engineer and has been involved over 2 decades  in the internal combustion engine community.

- Grenning Models is now accepting reservations from parties interested in this model. Interested parties click here to request a model

 - Remember, as with other models we have produced, production will be limited to less than 100 numbered units.

Below is the current status of our project

Pattern making has begun!  The plan is still to have an operational prototype built by January 2001

We will be handing out flyers and taking orders at the April North American Model Engineering Expo and at the June Coolspring show.

April 18th, 2000

As seen below the only parts needed to be drawn are the fuel delivery system.  Engineering and design work is about 90% complete!

The pattern work is continuing!

Note this precision scale reproduction will not be offered as a kit offered only as a complete operational unit.

Many have asked about the price.  We have not committed to a price at this time.

Two versions of this model will be offered  They are as follows:

1) Fully operational with out paint, polished parts and in need of sanding and or filling .Pricing will be around $5,250.00 +_

2) Fully operations with paint all parts polished and all mechanical components finely detailed Price in the ballpark of $6,250.00 +_

See graphic below for a .gif rendering of all engineered components designed to-date assembled on the computer with the use of CAD.

November 19th, 2000

Design work is complete and sample castings are being made at this time to prove out a pre-production prototype.

Completion of the pre-production prototype should be in mid spring 2001

Announcement:  The 1/3rd scale engine will be offered in 3 versions

1st Version :   Special Electric lighting as shown in the photo at the top of this page

2nd version:    Standard stationary version.  Without the extra heavy duty flywheels, counter balanced crank

3rd version:    Hopper cooled     This was a very rare version of the Otto engine.  Only a couple original examples exist today.

See Graphics below that show all three versions
