WWII Aviation History

I've been interested in this era of Aviation history since I was young. I was raised on a diet of reading B-17G operational manuals. The fact that my Dad was a pilot in the 487th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force during World War II is responsible for this interest.

Here are links to some sites that have caught my interest as I've researched this subject. Please send me mail if you discover sites worth sharing.

Information on the 487th has now been reorganized and expanded. Please click here to see the changes.

General Aviation

I've had the pleasure of flying as a general aviation pilot, accumulating a little under 200 hours in single engine aircraft. Minuteman Airport in Stow Massachusetts is where I earned my license, in Grumman Cheetahs. I've also flown Piper Cherokee class, and Cessna 150/152/172. I even accumulated around 3 hours in Robinson R-22 helicopters, and have had one hot air balloon ride.

Travel

One location of which our family is extremely fond is Cape Cod. For those of you unfamiliar with this area it is a body of land jutting into the Atlantic Ocean south of Boston. We primarily visit "The Cape" during the non summer. At that time of it can be quite dramatic, presenting beautiful skies, seas, and light crowds! Here's an example of the dramatic seas on Nauset Beach in Orleans.

Family and Family History

I've done limited genealogy research but do enjoy it, and will continue to "tinker" around.

My Mom is a Reetz by birth and I am a Hauenstein. Other family names in which I have interest are Chase (My Dad's maternal side), and Gilpin (my wife's family).

Remember I'd like to hear from all who have common interests, so please send me mail. Also, feel free to send any comments you care to share about what you've seen on this page.

Again, welcome, you are visitor number to this site.
