The Pilot Stitcher

   The Pilot Stitcher

  • Introduction: The Palm Pilot is a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or "Portable Brain" that can be used to keep track of appointments, phone numbers, etc.   In my case I also use my PalmPilot to keep track of all my stash so that I know what I have on hand when I buy new patterns.

  • J-File:  J-file is one of the many programmable databases available for the PalmPilot.  I use it because of it's ability to create databases that can be view in a list form with checkboxes to keep track of the stash I have or to mark the fibers and fabrics that I may need to get.  If you'd like additional information on the program you can go to their website at Land-J.com.  J-file is a shareware program that you can download from several sources.  I have included here a hot-link so that you can download a trial version of the program and if you like it you'll have to register it yourself.  The trial version will only allow you to run one database on your pilot at any given time.
Disclaimer:  I am not affiliated with J-land in any fashion except that I am a satisfied user of their products.

  • Fiber Databases: The following is a current listing of all available.  You have a choice of either a .pdb file (for use with J-file) or a .csv format which can be opened on Excel and then imported to most popular databases.  Since these files are very small (less than 15K each)   I have not compressed them.  You can use the standard installation tool to install the .pdb files on your pilot or use Excel to open them.

In the J-file format the fibers are listed by color, number (if applicable), and each color has one or more checkboxes to allow you to check whether or not you own the fiber or need to purchase it.

The .csv format files contain the same information except that the checkboxes are replaced by a field that will contain either a 1 or a 0 (in these files they are all 0's so that you can enter the data that you want).   This has to do with the way that J-file converts the checkboxes but it's not really a problem.  Most databases will easily convert the 1's & 0's into checkboxes or Y/N's.

  • These files are Tzdaka ware.  You don't owe me anything for using or distributing them but I would appreciate it if you would perform an act of Tzdaka for each file that you take.  Tzdaka means justice or a righteous act.  The lowest level is to make the person in need beg for help and the highest level is to do a 'good deed' for another person anonymously.  Give it your best shot to perform the highest level of Tzdaka possible for each file.

    Thanks,

    Lil Banchik
