Hannebaum Family History Research

The Ship Marianne (Hannebaum, 1843)

THE SHIP MARIANNE, 1843

The Adventures of Indiana Hannebaum! books were written by Harold Wulber Hannebaum, and edited on a volunteer basis by Larry Christensen, who now lives in San Diego, California. The following family history information was first compiled and edited by Christensen to help confirm dates and facts in Harold's seven books. Harold's memory proved to be so accurate that the information was almost unnecessary for its original purpose. But by then dozens of different families were regularly exchanging family history information. The flood of incoming information is being divided into five books. These nonprofit books are being compiled as a tribute to Harold and Tilda Hannebaum.

A word about copyrights: Harold Hannebaum's books are copyrighted, this website is copyrighted, but the family history books are not copyrighted because the intent is to share this information as freely and easily as possible.

Hannebaum Families in America and Germany

The ancestors of Harold "Indiana" Hannebaum who immigrated from Prussia to America are his great-grandparents, J. Friedrich Klausing Hannebaum and Caterina Bredenwischer Hannebaum, who were lifelong farmers in Europe. Coming from Wetter (Melle), Kingdom of Hannover, Prussia, Friedrich (55) and Catherina (44) sailed from Bremen to Baltimore, arriving on September 25, 1843, on board the new ship Marianne along with their five young children: Elizabeth (19), Henry (15), Franz [Frank] (10), Wilhelm (?) and Catherine (?).

Wetter to Metamora, 1843

Originally headed for Cincinati, Ohio, they settled and began farming nearby in Peppertown and Metamora, Franklin County, Indiana. This book is an attempt to include all known descendants, and some ancestors, of Frederick and Catherine Hannebaum. In an effort to discover the families of Frederick and Catherine in Europe, it also has the goal of placing every known Hannebaum in the world on an appropriate family tree. While this may sound ambitious, there are actually not that many Hannebaums in the world. The body of the book currently exceeds 300 pages, followed by a frequently updated list of all known living Hannebaums, their addresses and telephone numbers. The book finishes with a comprehensive index, for a total to date of about 360 pages. For more information, email the editor.

The Isaac and Gincy Jones Family of Franklin County, Indiana

Harold "Indiana" Hannebaum's mother is Flora Nell Jones. Her great-grandparents are Isaac Jones and Mary Jane "Gincy" Osborn, who came from Virginia to Franklin County, Indiana, with their separate families. There they married and raised eleven children. This book is an effort to include all known descendants of Isaac and Gincy Jones. The body of the book currently exceeds 235 pages, followed by a frequently updated list of these Jones descendants, their addresses and telephone numbers. The book finishes with a comprehensive index, for a total to date of about 260 pages. E-mail the editor.

The H&BM Family Tree Ahnentafel Book

This book contains actual family trees for the following surnames: HAHNBAUM, HAHNEBOHM, HAMBAUM, HANBAUM, HANEBAUM, HANENBAUM, HANNBAUM, HANNEBAUM, HANNEBOHM, HANNEBOHN, HAUBOIN [HONIGBAUM], HENNEBORN, HOHNBAUM, HONERBAUM, HONIGBAUM, and HONIGSBAUM. The H&BM Family Tree Ahnentafel Book began as a small, focused effort to discover the names of the parents of J. Friedrich Klausing Hannebaum, who immigrated to Indiana with his wife and children in 1843. Research showed early family name spellings in Indiana varied widely, hinting (incorrectly) that the Hannebaum surname might have been spelled differently in Europe. Before long the search was expanded to include every person in Europe with a similar family name--symbolized by "H&BM"--along with their descendants in America, Europe and other areas of the world. Since that time, many H&BM families have generously contributed family history outlines and received useful information in return. This book is unique because it includes as many H&BM individuals as possible in their family tree groups. The book has now reached 380 pages, plus the current H&BM Directory [22 pages], plus an index. E-mail the editor.
