FollyWorld Scene 2

Scene 116
written by Lilpeste and Linda

"Mind if I come in?"

Patrick Cutter steps aside as Tangie walks into his apartment...

Cutter: This is a pleasant surprise.

Tangie: This isn't going to be pleasant.

Cutter: (furrows his brow) Great. So what's happened? What's wrong?

Tangie: This isn't easy...

Cutter: Then would you like some coffee first?

Tangie: (tries to smile) You've been a good friend, Patrick.

Cutter: This doesn't sound good. Should I sit down?

Tangie: (nods, so he sits) There's something I have to tell you... and it's going to change everything.

As Patrick looks nervously at the woman who has had his heart since the first time he saw her, we cut to the Spaulding offices...

"I can't believe you did this."

"You're making a scene."

Alan's too angry (the events of the board meeting having sunk in...) to notice that he is attracting the attention of employees at Spaulding as he shouts at his daughter...

Alan: I mean, Phillip I would have expected this from. But you? Why you?

Amanda: The fact that you have to ask should probably give you the answer. You don't know me at all, Alan.

Alan: Yes, I do. I now know that you're a conniving, back-stabbing little... (too dignified to allow himself to complete his sentence) I don't know why I ever accepted you into my life.

Amanda: (still serene and calm) Ah, but you didn't. Not really. As for the conniving, back-stabbing part, well, I guess I could rely on that age-old cliché. (Alan glares at her) It takes one to know one, daddy dearest. But like I said... this isn't about you.

Alan: Then who's it about?

Amanda: For once in my life, it's about me.

"It's all my fault."

Cutter: You've explained about the history you had with your father, but I don't understand why you're blaming yourself... What did you do, exactly?

Tangie: (starts to tear) I killed my own father.

Off Patrick's shock, we return to Spaulding...

Amanda: I wasn't trying to destroy you, Alan... my world stopped revolving around you a long time ago. This was about so much more.

Alan: If you believe that this had nothing to do with me, if you truly believe that, then the only person who's being fooled is yourself. You wanted to prove something. It sounds to me like you felt cast aside so you set out to hurt me in the only way you knew how. Well, I suppose this is where Phillip comes into the picture.

Amanda: Phillip? You think Phillip had something to do with this? (laughs) You're still taking the credit away from me? Earth to Alan... Hello?!?!? News flash for you old man, it was all ME. My plan, my execution... my victory. I'm allowing Phillip to reap the benefits, but the mastermind was your daughter. Not your fair haired son. Do you finally understand? Has it made it through that thick skull yet?

Alan: That my daughter could hate me so much? Yes... it's sunk in...

"I hated him and everything he had done to me growing up..."

Patrick watches as Tangie paces back and forth on his hardwood floor...

Cutter: But what happened this particular day?

Tangie: I was disoriented... I had just fallen through the iced over lake... and I saw him coming towards me.

Cutter: Was he going to hurt you?

Tangie: (looks him dead in the eye) I wasn't going to wait to find out. Not this time. Never again would I give him the opportunity to hurt me.

As Patrick feels his heart sink, we return to Spaulding...

Amanda: I did what any smart business person would do... carpe diem... You had gotten sloppy Alan. You got what you deserved.

Alan: Amanda, most children confront their parents when they're upset with how they're being treated. They don't stage a coup of their company.

Amanda: You always wanted your kids to be over-achievers, didn't you?

Alan: I gave you plenty of opportunity to explain yourself, Amanda... all I have to say is... watch your back. You're in the big leagues now and paybacks can be hell. You'd be wise to remember that. (exits)

Amanda: You are so out of your league, Alan... and you haven't got a clue.

As Amanda goes to dial a number she knows by heart, we cut to Follybend; Holly has just finished feeding MJ when Fletcher walks through the door...

Holly: Hey Dad, what brings you home in the middle of the day?

Fletcher: I missed my little girl. (kisses Holly) Can I burp her?

Holly: (places the towel over his shoulder) Go right ahead, Daddy-o.

Holly watches, impressed at how good her husband is with their daughter, how lovingly he supports her little body as it prepares to spew milk down his shoulder... she notices his smile get even bigger as he gently pats her little back, rubbing it, almost willing the gas to escape... then the pride sweep over his face as MJ gives her father a big burp...

Fletcher: You are such a good girl, MJ... I love you so much.

Holly: Wow, if I burp like that, would I get showered with such love?

Fletcher: Don't you usually? (grins) I love you too. (kisses Holly) Why don't you lie down for about a half hour and let us have some bonding time...

Holly: (caresses the hair around his ear and then kisses him on the cheek) You are a lifesaver... wake me when you have to go... (exits to the bedroom)

Fletcher: (sits down with MJ lying comfortably in his arms) Do you have any idea how much I love you little one? (she wraps her tiny fingers around his pinkie) The bond between you and me... is only going to grow stronger each day....

On his hope, we fade to black...
