Scene 132 "Journal reporter, Tangie Hill, was killed while on vacation in Canada..." Janet turns off the television... Emily: He wasn't very good. No wonder Gilly wanted us. Janet: (smiles) Don't get cocky. Emily: (rolls her eyes) Oh please, don't worry... Listen, I want to check out the town, do you want to come? Janet: I think I'll finish unpacking. Once we start working, there's not going to be time for it. Emily: You're not going to take me on a tour? Janet: Another time. I promise. Are you sure you're comfortable in the guest house? There's plenty of room in here... Emily: (smiles) Thanks anyway, but I like it back there. I'm sure I'll be gone most of the time anyway. (grabs her keys and heads out the door) See you later. (leaves) Janet: Bye. (goes to the window and watches her daughter drive away) It's strange being back here... Janet goes to the night-stand in her bedroom and opens the top drawer; she pulls out an old worn photograph of herself with a young man... Janet: Will you even remember me? Off Janet, we cut to the Country Club; Rita has taken Alan there to try to cheer him up; Robbie enters, walking by their table... Alan: Robbie, would you care to join us? Rita: I'm sure she's busy, Alan... Robbie: (gives her mother a look, notices she seems to be on edge...) Actually, I am... I'm meeting Alan-Michael. Alan: (worried since he thinks Robbie could be his daughter) He's still seeing Lucy, isn't he? Robbie: (amused by what she knows Alan must be thinking) Yeah, he is... I'll let him know you were worried about his love life, Mr. Spaulding. Alan: Please, call me Alan... Rita feels sick to her stomach... it only gets worse when she sees who else has arrived to eat at the Country Club... "Hello Rita, Alan..." Robbie: (extends her hand) Hi, my name is Robbie. Ed: (not sure who this girl is but shakes her hand regardless) I'm Ed Bauer. This is my daughter, Michelle. (realizes one introduction that hasn't been made) Michelle, this is Rita... my ex-wife... Michelle: (surprised) So you're... I'm sorry. It's nice to meet you. Rita: (wanting to crawl in a hole) It's nice to meet you, too. Robbie: (fascinated; watches Ed's face closely as she says...) Rita's my mother. Rita can feel her head beginning to throb... Ed: Really? Well that's... (takes a closer look at Robbie, then looks at Rita, then back at Robbie) What did you say your name was? Robbie: It's Robbie... Ed: That's an interesting name. What is it short for? Rita instinctively goes to touch the heart necklace that Alan gave her... Robbie: Roberta Ed: (looks at Rita, then back to Robbie) That's a very pretty name. My mother's name was Bert. Actually, her full name was Bertha... Robbie and Ed look at each other and then stare at Rita. Alan stares at Rita. Rita stares at her drink for a moment and then drinks the entire glass of wine... Michelle stares at the empty table nearby that she wants to sit at... Rita looks up to see everyone staring at her... Rita: Will you all excuse me? Alan/Robbie/Ed: No. Rita: Didn't think you would... (looks at Alan, sadly... then at Robbie) I'm sorry... Robbie: (points to Ed) He's my father, isn't he? Ed: (flabbergasted) What?!?!!? Rita: (knows she can't hide the truth any longer, looks at Ed) You had found out about Alan and me... you were furious. I knew you couldn't stand the sight of me anymore. But I also knew you wouldn't let me go if I was having your child... and I wasn't willing to throw my life away, so I ran... Alan: But what about me? Rita: (feeling attacked by all sides) Oh right. You were going to leave your wife who was pregnant with your child, to play daddy to Ed Bauer's baby? I don't think so... Alan: (stung) So that's why you took off without saying anything... Michelle: (confused; looks at her father) She's your daughter? What?!?!?! Ed: (stunned) I can't believe you did this, Rita! I can't believe how selfish... Robbie: (angry) Way to go, Mom. (walks out) Rita: But, Robbie, wait -- Ed: You sicken me... (grabs Michelle's hand and they walk out) Rita: Oh god... I can't believe this is happening... I can't lose Robbie... Alan: (throws his napkin on the table) Can you blame her? (leaves) Rita: (stands; yells after him) Alan! I can't lose you too! Waiter: Um... can I help you ma'am? Rita: (looks at her empty wine glass) Can you bring me the bottle? (sighs as she sits back down)
