Parodies About Neil from Other People's Songs

Happy Birthday Big 6-0 - To the tune of "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen", a song Neil Diamond recorded but didn't write. This was written in honor of Neil's 60th birthday.
Neil Diamond Is Comin' To Town - To the tune of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town", another song Neil recorded but didn't write.

Future songs to be added in this category may include:

This Diamond Song - to the tune of "This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Me Up On The Stage with Neil Diamond - to the tune of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles
Diamond Man - to the tune of "Diamond Girl" by Seals and Crofts
"Hello Again, Ms. Porcupine Pie" - to the tune of "American Pie" by Don McLean
Diamondhead - words set to the tune of "Diamondhead", an instrumental done by the Ventures
Big Drummer Guys - to the tune of "Little Drummer Boy", another Christmas song Neil recorded but didn't write, in tribute to Neil's drummers/percussionists Ron Tutt, Vince Charles (who died on June 3, 2001, and will be sorely missed), King Errisson, and Dennis St. John.

Part 2: Songs Found at Other Web Sites

Yes, others have done this, too!

Yum Yum Bake Shop

Sign seen outside donut shop, Warminster, PA

The following parodies were not done by me. The various links take you to other web sites. You can return here by clicking on your browser's back button. Although I have tried to make my original parodies (above) suitable for all age groups, it is possible that some of the ones are not so suitable. Or they may appear on pages that also contain other parodies that are not suitable for all ages.

I saw the above message outside the Yum Yum Bake Shop on County Line Road (Bucks side of the street) in Warminster Township, PA (although I think the mailing address is actually Hatboro), on Wednesday night, September 9, 1998. I went back the following Saturday, September 12, during the day, hoping that the message was still there, so that I could photograph it. It was indeed still there, so I was able to take the picture. This is a shot of the east side of the sign, which can be seen by westbound traffic. The other side contained a "Help Wanted" message. Almost two years later, on Tuesday night, September 5, 2000, I drove past this shop headed east, and the message was back up, although it was now on the west side of the sign, and I could see out my rear view mirror that the east side now contained a "Help Wanted" message. Somebody in that store must really like Neil or this song. Or both. I'll have to go in and find out for myself.

If you have comments about any of the following parodies, please attempt to find email addresses or home pages for the sites to which you have linked and send your comments to the people who maintain them, not to me. However, if you discover that any of these links no longer work, or if you feel strongly that this link is not appropriate for the Hot Doggest Night web site, please let me know. In July 2000, January 2001, and June 2001, I corrected or updated several links here that had been changed in the previous few months. If any of these did not work for you previously, try them again. Regina Litman.

Lyrics you can read:

The following parodies are posted at Am I Right, a site that also contains misheard lyrics and other fun stuff. I've been a loyal Netscape user since I came online in 1996 but always test my stuff in that other major browser, too. Unfortunately, not everyone extends that courtesy in the other direction these days, and some sites just do not work in Netscape any more. This is one of them.

Am I Right - Song Parodies - "Human Resources" - To the tune of "Sweet Caroline". NEW LINK!
Am I Right - Song Parodies - "You Don't Take A Shower" - To the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". Not the same as a similarly-titled song by Weird Al Yankovic (see below for links to that one). NEW LINK!

Christy Filk Song Contest - Contains "Sweet Christy Rudd", a parody (referred to here as a "filk") of "Sweet Caroline". You'll need to scroll pretty far down the page to find it, past a lot of Christmas song parodies. NEW LINK!

Lounge Lizard Medley - Contains a parody (referred to here as a "filk") of "Sweet Caroline". You'll need to scroll part of the way down the page to find it. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!

The following are from The Boot Newt Sing Along Page or The Boot Newt Sing Along Guest Song Parodies Page, whose philosophy I can certainly agree with! (To play the MIDI music for these, when you get there, click on the button you'll see in the top left corner of that page.) If you have any problems with these links, you can go to Boot Newt Sing Along Page Mirror Site Home Page. Please note that the links to all of the pages at the Boot Newt Sing Along Page, except for the mirror site, have been changed, so if you have bookmarked any of them or added any to favorites, please be sure you update this information. Also, if you want to print any of the parodies at the Boot Newt Sing Along Page, they may look better from the mirror site due to a prominent ad at the top of each page at the primary site.

Showed Up In Blue Jeans - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Forever In Blue Jeans". NEW LINK!
Bush Brothers' Unravelling Nation Show - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show". RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
Bush Just Whines - The Boot Newt Sing Along Guest Song Parodies Page, to the tune of "Red, Red Wine". RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
Cacklin' Cronies - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Cracklin' Rosie".
Bush The Deceiver - The Boot Newt Sing Along Guest Song Parodies Page, to the tune of "I'm A Believer".
Smirk, You're Just A Big Buffoon - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon".
Cheney, Cheney - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Cherry, Cherry".
Strom Thurmond's Age Charade - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Longfellow Serenade".
Rush Is A Pox - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Love On The Rocks".
A Yucky Woman - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Kentucky Woman".
Not A Believer - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "I'm A Believer".
They're Conquering America - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "America".
Brother Rush Dittohead Sensation Show - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show".
Never In Newt's Dreams - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "Forever In Blue Jeans".
Newt Don't Have No Powers - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page, to the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers".
(The Boot Newt Sing Along Page also contains parodies of several songs that Neil has recorded but did not write, including "Heartbreak Hotel", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", "When You Wish Upon A Star", "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Can't Help Falling In Love", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", "Hanky Panky", "Up On The Roof", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Everybody's Talkin'", and on the guest parodies page, "As Time Goes By" and "Puttin' On The Ritz", as well as lots of Christmas songs, one of which came from an idea I contributed.)

Posted at the Guest Songs Parodies Page at The Boot Newt Sing Along Page are two of my own songs that are also posted here. To see them with a MIDI accompaniment option:

We Are...We Say - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page Guest Parodies, to the tune of "I Am...I Said".
(They're Coming To) Philadelphia - The Boot Newt Sing Along Page Guest Parodies, to the tune of "America".
(Any of you who were ever fans of Peter Noone or Herman's Hermits, check out I'm H. Ross Perot, I Am, to the tune of "I'm Henry The Eighth, I Am". And if you like singers whose first or middle name is Lesley or Leslie, check out Should Be My Party, to the tune of "It's My Party" by Lesley Gore. But this one was written for a different person with the last name of Gore to sing!)

Joker's Home Page Song Parodies For The Demented - "Sweet Hair O'Mine" - To the tune of "Sweet Caroline". And I think the subject matter is one that Neil himself can relate to! The last time I updated this page, the lyrics page for this one had disappeared, but an MP3 of someone singing the parody words (not Neil and not even close to Neil) was still available at Bad Song Parody MP3's. Now, the lyrics are back, but the MP3 page is gone! (I've left the MP3 link active for the time being in case it returns. The MP3 for "Sweet Hair O'Mine" appeared with the comment, "Sorry Neil!!!".)

The old USENET messages are back online! The service is now run by Google. The following parodies were found in USENET news items posted there. When you click on the link, you will be taken to the parody on the Google Groups site. You may need to scroll down to see the parody part of the messages. You can come back here by clicking on your browser's back button.

alt.support.childfree "Moomie Love's Travelling Lactation Show" - To the tune of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show". NEW LINK!
alt.support.childfree "Shilo" parody NEW LINK!
alt.fan.pratchett "I'm A Believer" parody NEW LINK!
soc.culture.asian.american "I'm a Buddha-Head" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer". (This message also contains parodies of two other Monkee songs that Neil didn't write.) NEW LINK!
alt.aol-s**ks "I'm A Believer" parody - Despite the objectionable word in the newsgroup's name, this parody is suitable for all ages. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
alt.music.monkees "I'm A Believer" parody RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
soc.culture.vietnamese "Love On The Net" - To the tune of "Love On The Rocks". RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
rec.sport.football.college "A Nittany Tune" - To the tune of "Song Sung Blue". It turns out that I'm not the only one who had the "Team In Blue" idea. (I am not a fan of Penn State football, but I had a great visit to the campus on November 10, 1998, to see Neil perform in the Bryce Jordan center there.) RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
alt.music.monkees "I'm A Believer" parody - This is one that I posted back in 1996 to drum up support for a USENET newsgroup I eventually started, alt.music.neil-diamond. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
alt.fan.barbra.streisand "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" parody - This is another one that I posted back in 1996 to drum up support for the alt.music.neil-diamond USENET newsgroup. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!
phl.media "I'm Steve The Leaver" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer". This is another one of mine, which I didn't think was good enough to post here! I have done several parodies of Neil Diamond songs about past (mostly) and present Philadelphia Inquirer columnists, but this one, about Steve Lopez's 1997 departure from the paper, is the only one I've ever posted anywhere.
rec.music.filk "Impeachment" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer". Please note that I consider this particular parody to be adult-oriented. Discretion advised.
rec.roller-coaster "I'm A True Zebra" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer".
alt.tv.highlander "Forever In Blue Jeans" parody - "Highlander" is apparently some TV show that I've seen the same number of times that I've seen "Star Trek", "Seinfeld", "Survivor", and "The Sopranos" combined: zero.
alt.tv.highlander "Longfellow Serenade" parody - Another one about "Highlander". Unfortunately the authors of both this one and the one just above this one admit to not liking Neil very much.
alt.fan.lion-king "Be" parody - I've never seen "The Lion King", but I know that Neil did a song from "The Lion King" on "The Movie Album". Here's a song about "The Lion King" to the tune of one of Neil's songs!

And while we're on the subject of "The Lion King":
Nalaholics Anonymous - "Nala" - To the tune of "Shilo".

The following are from Star Wars Musical Humor, in a section called "The Neil Diamond Star Wars Concert Tour". (And they have finally corrected the spelling of Neil's name!)

Captain Solo - Star Wars Musical Humor, to the tune of "Cracklin' Rosie".
Darth Is Blue - Star Wars Musical Humor, to the tune of "Song Sung Blue".
I Am...Emperor - Star Wars Musical Humor, to the tune of "I Am...I Said".
Sweet Palpatine - Star Wars Musical Humor, to the tune of "Sweet Caroline".

And while we're on the subject of "Star Wars":
Star Wars Humor Page Song Parodies - "I'm A Believer" - Now a direct link to the song!

I'm not the only one with an artist-specific song parody web site. A few devoted to the Monkees have sprung up on the Internet. And each one that I've found seems to have at least one Neil Diamond song that the Monkees did. Here's what I've found at Monkees song parody sites or at other Monkees-related sites (you may need to scroll down the page to find some of these):

Sleepy Jean's Land Of Security! - "I'm A Believer" Parody
The Monkees Home Page - "I'm A Receiver" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer".
Wibble Songs - "A Wibble Bit Me, A Wibble Bit You" - To the tune of "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You".
Monkees' Christmas Parody Page - Includes parody of "I'm A Believer". Please note that this parody contains a 4-letter word that is considered by many to be profane. Discretion advised. LINK UPDATED!
Monkees' Peeps Parody Page - This page contains both "I'm A Peep-leaver" and "Look Out, Here Comes A Pink Peep". Thanks to Judy who emailed me a description of Peeps and to Ralph, who went even further and actually sent me some Peeps!
Monkees' Cows Parody Song Lyrics Page - Includes "Look Out Here Comes The Farmer" - followed by the comment, "(*Moo-ve over Neil Diamond*)". BACK ONLINE WITH AN UPDATED LINK!

And as long as we're doing "I'm A Believer":

Rosie Nation - "I'm Not A Diva" - Song done by Gloria Estefan while guest-hosting for Rosie O'Donnell on Rosie's show to the tune of "I'm A Believer". (Speaking of Gloria Estefan, there's an interesting picture of her with Neil at Jean Bovis' Neil Diamond Home Page News. You'll need to scroll down the page to find it.)
The B.O.M.B. Squad Parody Page - "I'm A Believer"
Lasselanta Inferno's Parodies - "I'm A Deceiver" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer".
WWW.LAWRENCESAVELL.COM - "I'm A Proofreader" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer".
Miss Parker's Most Wanted Filk - "I'm A Pretender" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer", on a page of parodies about another T.V. show I've never seen, "The Pretender". Scroll down to find it.
Maureen's X-Files Filk - "Shoulda Seen My Face" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer". I've never seen "The X-Files", either, and don't even know if it's a movie, a movie series, a T.V. series, or both.
Lough Devnaree Home Page Articles by Estrella Decameron - "Jade's Song" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer".
Mr. Hat's **** Hole - South Park - "I'm No Believer" - To the tune of "I'm A Believer", on a web site of parodies about a T.V. show I've only seen once, "South Park". Please note that this parody and this web site's title contain 4-letter words that are considered by some to be profane. Discretion advised.
Worship List Archive Message - Two short parodies to the tune of "I'm A Believer". I am not this type of believer, but those who are may appreciate these. Do not be misled by the Beach Boys song referenced in the title. Scroll down to find the "I'm A Believer" parodies.
Jesus Freaks Anonymous - Made Me A Believer - To the tune of "I'm A Believer". Another one that would be better appreciated by those who are a different type of believer than I am. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!

"You Don't Take Your Showers" by Weird Al Yankovic, to the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", can be found at all of the following sites:

mdfs.net - Scroll down to find it on this page.
The Al-a-Carte Lyric Database
Yankovic! - Unpublished Lyrics
Jupiter's Red Spot Song Lyrics
ALNet - Rare and Unreleased

Science Song Lyrics - "You Don't Wash My Glassware" - To the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". This one is written as a duet!
alt.startrek.vs.starwars Fanfic Archive - "Brother Chuck's Traveling Fanfiction Show" - To the tune of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show".
Bill Buckels Present HepSongs - "Red, Red Wine" Parody

The following are from Mike Smith's Politically Incorrect Sing-Along Page. (Note - This is not the same Mike Smith who has contributed to the various Neil Diamond message boards.)

Bill's A Deceiver - Mike Smith's Politically Incorrect Sing-Along Page, to the tune of "I'm A Believer". Please be advised that I don't necessarily agree with the sentiments expressed in this song.
I Believe Limbaugh - Mike Smith's Politically Incorrect Sing-Along Page, also to the tune of "I'm A Believer". And be advised that I definitely don't agree with the sentiments expressed in this one!
Windshield - Mike Smith's Politically Incorrect Sing-Along Page, to the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". However, unlike the above two songs from this guy's site, I do agree with the sentiments expressed in this song.

Sounds you can hear, if you have the right setup (you will have to scroll down quite a bit to find some of them):

The Tom McMurray Collection! - When you get to this page, click on the Thomas McMurray Ideas Presentation. (You may need to scroll down to find it.) This will launch a 22:38 RealAudio program. At 3:46, a very realistic-sounding Neil Diamond impersonator comes on doing a parody of "Sweet Caroline" about talk radio. It lasts for just over a minute. You can listen until it comes on or scroll up to almost this point using the RealAudio control bar.

Radio Free Cybertron Past Shows Page - When you get to this page, scroll down to find the entry for Dec 17, 1999, and click on it. This will launch a 21:46 RealAudio program. Just before the 14-minute mark, someone on the show does a song called "Nightbird" to the tune of "Cherry, Cherry", with Neil's hit version providing the instrumental backing. Thus, it lasts for the same length as the hit song. You can listen until it comes on or scroll up to almost this point using the RealAudio control bar. See entry for "Nightbird" under "Read lyrics and listen to them being sung" for an easier way to get this one.

The Extremely Unofficial Rush Limbaugh Parody Archives - B - Listen to "Bushleaguer", based on "I'm A Believer". Scroll down to find it, since it is near the bottom of the "B" page. The Extremely Unofficial Rush Limbaugh Parody Archives has many other parodies, but because of the sheer number of them and the fact that I do not agree with its political philosophy, I have not listened to all of them. So, there could be more of Neil's songs here. (But the one called "Thank The Lord" is not based on "Thank The Lord For The Nighttime".)

Read lyrics and listen to them being sung:

The following are from Bob Rivers and Twisted Tunes. They are somewhat tasteless, so discretion is advised:

Twisted Tunes Vault-O-Matic - "Red Neck Swine" - To the tune of "Red, Red Wine", done "UB40 style". Listen to it at Twisted Tunes Vault-O-Matic - R.
Twisted Tunes Vault-O-Matic - "You Don't Smell Like Flowers Anymore" - To the tune of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". Listen to it at Twisted Tunes Vault-O-Matic - Y.

The Black Sword - "Nightbird" - To the tune of "Cherry, Cherry". Links to the RealAudio and MP3 versions of someone singing these words (not Neil and not even close) can be found at The Black Sword. Scroll down the page and look for it. You can also find links to the RealAudio and MP3 versions and to the lyrics at the Radio Free Cybertron Past Shows Page - scroll down to near the bottom of this lengthy page to find them.

Paul Silhan - "Brother Lib's Travelling Salvation Show" - To the tune of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show". I don't necessarily agree with this one.

Parodies you can purchase:

Please note that I do not participate in advertising programs on my web sites at this time. I have set up this section for the convenience of fans of Neil Diamond parodies who may want to purchase versions of these parodies that are not currently available online. Being listed here is solely at my discretion.

The Capitol Steps Home Page - This outfit has done some parodies of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". One parody, called "A Few Good Men", is on their CD "Workin' 9 to 10". There are two different versions of another parody, called "You Don't Bring Me Floriculturally Diverse Polyfragrant Soilistically Challenged Multipetaled Victims of Pesticidal Food Chain Chauvinism". Their CD "76 Bad Loans" contains the 1991 version, and the CD "Lord Of The Fries" contains the 1995 version. You can order these CDs from their web site. Or go directly to the Capitol Steps - Album Orders page. Incidentally, if the Capitol Steps ever perform in your area, I highly recommend going to see them. I saw them in Glenside, PA, on November 5, 2000, and greatly enjoyed their show.

Part 3: Some Non-Musical Neil Diamond Parodies Found Online

Please remember that all of the following are parodies.

Gilkey Christmas Letter 1999 - Look at the third paragraph of text for a humorous reference to Neil, who is referred to as the "favorite musician" of one of the author's family members. NEW LINK!

Scenes We'd Love to See in "Saving Silverman" - "Saving Silverman" was an early 2001 movie about guys who play in a Neil Diamond tribute band. Neil had a small role in the movie. This page describes some additional scenes that could have made more use of the Neil Diamond connection. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!

Diamond and the Dead - This is a message that was posted in the USENET newsgroup rec.music.gdead about a concert at the Greek Theatre featuring Neil Diamond, the Grateful Dead, and others. The concert took place on April 1, 1992, and this message was posted on April 1, 1996. RECENTLY ADDED LINK!

I Am...I Said, I KISS YOU!!!!! - This is a parody of a page originally done by someone named Mahir Cagri using Neil Diamond images and song titles. There's a link from this one to the Mahir Cagri original so you can compare them if you like.

Bill's Diamond Theory - This is a comparison of Neil Diamond with a performer named King Diamond, with the conclusion that they are one and the same person!

Urban Legends Reference Page: Lost Legends (Fried and True) - Scroll down to the last paragraph of text for a humorous comment in which Neil's song "Kentucky Woman" is mentioned. If the time frame were about 20 years earlier, I would have thought that this is why it took 28 years for this song to finally appear on Neil's classic live album Hot August Night.

All the blame for this page should go to Regina Litman.
