Font Faces (Netscape 3 and MSIE only)

In addition to the text format options provided in html, Netscape 3 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer allow you to specify fonts that reside on the system of the user. For example, <font face="book antiqua"> will cause the text to appear in the "book antiqua" font for anyone using netscape3 who has the "book antiqua" truetype font on his or her system.

You may specify alternate fonts that will be substituted for fonts that the user does not have. For example, you might use <font face="book antiqua,palatino,arial">. If Netscape does not find "book antiqua", it will look for the next choice.

You should use the <B>bold</B> and<I>italic</I> tags to display the bold, italic and bold italic versions of the different fonts. In limited circumstances, you can use , for example, <font face="bookman old style bold"> but it will not display consistently in Netscape or MSIE.

*indicates fonts listed as the fonts supplied with Windows95, Windows3.1 and Windows NT.

++Indicates fonts supplied with Office95, Office WindowsNT and Office version 4.3 that were also supplied with the discontinued Microsoft Truetype Font Pack 1 or 2. This would mean that they are more likely to exist on earlier versions.

Remaining fonts are supplied with Office95, Office WindowsNT and Office version 4.3 only. These are in my fonts folder dated 9/27/95.

Here are the basic Macintosh fonts. However, there is no guarantee that they are in use on most Macintosh computers, as they can be stored in different font utilities to save disk space.
