THIRD GRADE STUDENTS INVITED TO NAME NEW NATIVE AMERICAN
STATUE AT HORN POND
All third grade students are invited to submit a name
for the new Native American statue. Children should do research
on Native Americans that lived in this area and select an appropriate
name. Each child should submit the chosen name and the reason
he/she thinks the name is appropriate. Students should write their
name, school, and teacher's name on the back of the 8.5"
x 11" entry.
All teachers and principals have a picture of the sculpture
and a set of rules.
Entries are due in Dr. Nolan's office by 4 P.M. on
September 24th. A ceremony to formally name the Native American
will be held on October 3rd.

OF BEST IN STATE!!!
In releasing the state's
third grade reading scores, Commissioner of Education David Driscoll
named nineteen schools that have, in the term used by THE BOSTON
GLOBE, been overachievers during each of the past three years.
Among these was the Shamrock School.
Congratulations to the students,
staff, and parents who are a winning combination in providing
the Shamrock Children with the best!

WOBURN STUDENTS RECEIVE HONORS IN GLOBE SCHOLASTIC
ART AWARDS PROGRAM
The BOSTON GLOBE has announced that KENNEDY MIDDLE
SCHOOL students CRAIG MARCIANO and DAVID SHEPARD and WOBURN HIGH
SCHOOL student DAVID HUXTABLE have been awarded honorable mention
in the Globe Scholastic Art Awards Program.

KENNEDY STUDENTS GET READY FOR GEOGRAPHY BEE
Minds were humming and fingers were gliding over maps locating
Pakistan, rain forests, lands with glaciers, and rivers that form
great deltas. Where was this activity?Where else, in Mr. Ricardelli's
class at the Kennedy Middle School as the students got ready to
participate in the National Geographic Geography Bee.
The entrance exam for the Geography Bee was given Thursday,
January 14. Eight students won top honors and one, eighth grader
JOSEPH TRICOMI'S paper has been sent to Washington as the official
winner at the Kennedy Middle School.

IN MEMORIAM
The Woburn Public Schools mourns the passing of our
student and friend Nichole Fasanelli. Niki was an exceptional
young lady who had a strong impact on all who met her. She will
be greatly missed by her family and all of her friends.
