Chapter 6 Behaviorial Objectives

Chapter 6 Behavioral Objectives

The individual upon completion of this chapter should be able to accomplish the following tasks:

  1. Given several nucleophiles, identify the strongest or weakest
  2. Given the structural formulas of several solvents, identify the polar protic solvents or the aprotic polar solvents
  3. Given several different alkyl halides reacted with same identified nucleophile determine which will form substitution product fastest either under SN2 conditions or under SN1 conditions
  4. Given several different alkyl halides reacted with the same nucleophile base, determine which will form substitution or elimination product
  5. Given a specified configuration of the substrate identify the configuration of the product under specified SN conditions
  6. Given several alkyl halides, identify which ones would undergo SN1 and which would undergo SN2.
  7. Given the fact that the reaction occurs under SN2, identify which alkyl halide would give the greatest yield of substitution product
  8. Given that a reaction is either SN1 or SN2 and a list of statements, identify the statements that would be true for the specified pathway (SN1 or SN2)
  9. Given a specified alkyl halide and a specified nucleophile (base) identify the major substitution or elimination product by structural formula.
  10. Given a cycloalkyl halide , a specified nucleophile, and two possible products, identify the product from the two.
  11. Given a complete substitution reaction, identify the nucleophile or the leaving group.
  12. Given the rate order, identify the corresponding Rate Law Equation.
  13. Given either an SN1, SN2, E1, or E2 conditions prevalent, identify the factors that would favor the given pathway.
  14. Given several chemical reactions, identify which ones are substitution.
  15. Given a Potential Energy Diagram, identify the most stable or least stable position, or identify whether the reaction is exothermic or endothermic.
  16. Given several SN2 or SN1 reactions identify which will occur most rapidly using a given solvent.
  17. Given several alkyl halides, identify which one would give the highest yield of elimination product.
  18. Given several reactions with indicated leaving groups, identify which one are most likely to occur or not to occur.
  19. Given several molecular or ionic species, identify which are nucleophiles and which are electrophiles.
  20. Given an increased concentration identify the best explanation for why the effect is observed.
  21. Given several SN2 reactions with the same substrate but different nucleophiles, identify which one will occur most rapidly or least rapidly.
  22. Given an SN1 or SN2 reaction and a specified concentration change of one of the reactants, identify what relative effect that will have on the Reaction Rate.
  23. Identify the number of electrons in the "p" orbital of an SP2 hybridized atom.
  24. Identify the hybridization of a carbocation.
  25. Given the Delta H and Delta S at a specified temperature, calculate the Delta G for the reaction.
  26. Given a list of solvents, identify which are polar aprotic and which are polar protic.
