Two charged at area card reading business

DuPage County Sheriff John E Zaruba announced last week the arrest of the owners of Psychic Tarot Card Reading, a business located in unincorporated Naperville.

Tracy M. Tan, 37, and Eric Tan, 34, were arrested and charged after sheriff's detectives conducted a search warrant at the business located at 9S275 Route 59.

Eric Tan was charged with possession of a fraudulent ID card, a Class 4 felony. Tracy Tan has been charged with eight felony counts which include theft, forgery and possession of a fraudulent ID.

In November 2007, sheriff's detectives received a complaint about the business practices. After a thorough investigation with the assistance of the DuPage County States Attorney's Special Prosecution/ Public Integrity Unit, Illinois State Police and the Secretary of State Police, three search warrants were executed at the business, where an undisclosed amount of jewelry and cash were seized.

The couple allegedly used the business to prey on the misfortune of people who came to have their cards read. It is alleged that Tracy Tan would convince the customers that they had a curse on them, and she was the only one who could fix their problems. During this "counseling," she would charge her victim's thousands of dollars for her services and products which provided them with a false sense of hope.
