FEBRUARY 2004 THE MONTH OF ENOCH
Since his return to the first team in December, Enoch was still decidedly "raw" and it was in the Cup game in January against Tranmere where things finally came to a head. This was entirely unfair to the Big Man. He was a victim of circumstance, a loan striker in a barren land of the opposition's half. A new month turned, and so did a new leaf in the story of Enoch Showunmi - The Showman - The Showboat - THE DADDY!
A new determination was seen from the Leggy Lord as soon as he took to the pitch against Colchester at the Kenny on the 7th. It wasn't long before he was hitting the bar (and, dare I mention, it - missing a few sitters). A goal for the man was in the offing, and he converted a chance which many others would have faltered, turning on the spot and firing from 12 yards out past the Col U keeper. Resounding cheers of ENOCH! ENOCH! from around the ground.
Just how could he better that showing? We didn't have to wait long to find out! The following Tuesday, a crunch game against fellow promotion-chasers, Brighton. A packed away-end added to an electric atmosphere... again Enoch was ON FIRE! If he didn't get another goal in this game, there was something wrong! But there wasn't anything wrong. Not with his performance, not with any of the Town players. First off, Enoch finds himself with the keeper to beat, does he chip, does he blast? No, he selflessly lays it into the path of a rapidly approaching Peter Holmes and he fires it home. Enoch the Provider. The Brighton players don't know how to handle the Big Man, they are being run ragged by this huge man bearing down on their goal everytime he gets the ball. In the second half, they resort to taking his legs away. This only helps us when Enoch is brought down for a penalty. Nico took it, but it was Enoch's dogged persistence that got us the chance to put the game out of reach! What's more - ENOCH, MAN-OF-THE-MATCH, first time in a Professional League game!
Another home tie - a bogey team, Brentford. We need Enoch on full-throttle. He doesn't disappoint!

* 49 Minutes - leaves the Bees' defence for dead as he rounds them all and slots in under the keeper - we'll be happy with that! 2-0

* 66 Minutes - three minutes after it goes 2-1, Enoch decides to regain the margin, a mirror-image of the first goal! His first BRACE in League football! The crowd goes wild, Enoch goes on a tour of the Kenilworth front line! FAN-ENO-TASTIC!

* 80 Minutes - is he going to go for the hat-trick? Of course, he bloody is! This is the legend of Enoch! It's bound to have a happy ending! Peter Holmes returned the Brighton favour and tees him up to fire home. ABSOLUTE BEDLAM! His team-mates bury him, the crowd go absolutely bonkers. It's 4-1, there's still ten minutes and Enoch is not going to rest on his laurels!

Without a doubt, Man-of-the-Match two home games running. Match ball winner. 9/10 and in Team of the Day in NotW!
Then came the first away game of the month - Wycombe - forgettable, not a patch on previous showings, least said, eh? However, Enoch had arguably the best chance of the game - an overhead cross which became an attempt on target!
ENOCH is named Travel Extra's Player of the Month
Enoch was due to be awarded Travel Extras' Player of the Month at the Bournemouth home game on 2nd March, but due to the postponement of the match, this is rescheduled for Saturday 13th March. Click here for details.
ENOCH is FOOTBALL LEAGUE Umbro Isotonic Division 2 Player of the Month
Not much more we can say! On March 4th, the Football League named Enoch Showunmi Division 2 Player of the Month for February. The month is complete! Enoch-stasy!

The panel who judged the competition said this of Enoch, "Enoch Showunmi is a classic example of a player being given a chance and taking it with both hands. He has made just seven starts since being plucked from non-league football but has already become a real hero with the fans. His pace and skill has proved too much for some defences and he has shown an eye for goalscoring as well as creating countless openings for his team-mates."
