My son, Jermell... Age 2
Happy Birthday to Me . February 3, 2006                                    Malcolm B. Smith

This is the 2nd "State of My Life" Decade Report, celebrating 10 more years from the first report at age thirty (30), the first turning point. Many who read the first report are no longer here to celebrate my 2nd decade report, and that within itself is the most recognizable fact of this turning point. First, I must give honor and thanks to God for allowing me to be here another ten years, and standing strong in health and in mind. The joy of the Lord is my strength and I must recognize that fact because since February 3, 1996, I have endured the loss of my best friend, Tony Graves, my favorite person, Aunt Geneva Smith Hill, and the mother that raised me, Katie Elizabeth Cox, Mama. Each one of these very prominent figures of my life, among many others, reflects the changes occurring over a ten year span. Let me now also pay homage to, my dear and loving great-grandmother, Versena Dilworth, caring, and wise cousin, Ruth "Pepper" Drummond, special and unique, Aunt Florie Cox Haynes, one of a kind, Aunt Jackie Dilworth, Uncle Steve Dilworth, and cousin Tony Bobo Smith. There were many others unnamed here that I cannot share this decade report with due to their passing, may God continue to bless the legacy and memory of those we lost in this span of time and before.
Since February 3, 1996, we have ushered in a new millennium, the beginning of year 2000, so feared, yet anticipated with such excitement, not rivaled by any other year I have ever witnessed. We have felt the effects of world change and drastic domestic strife following the September 11, 2001, a\k\a 9-1-1, day of destruction and death at the World Trade Center, a place where I once celebrated with co-workers, and colleagues for the annual Concierge Ball. Ironically, in this new millennium, I completed twelve years of NYC employment at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, located within the sphere of celebration and festivities at the site of Times Square. Not to mention, the day before 9-1-1, on September 10, 2001, I stopped my car at the very site known as ground zero, to meet with an employee at the WTC to say goodbye, as I headed out of the city before that fateful day, to go on a vacation. Victoria Regina Lockhart, victoriously blessed by the Lord, escaped from the first of the crippled, doomed, buildings at the WTC destruction from the 63rd floor. We have recorded music together, and she witnesses to many the glory of God and his mercy in her ministry and testimony.
Remarkable mercy, love, and power truly describe this epic span of ten years as I testify of Gods' miracles and blessings, including the healing of my mother, Jerlean Smith Noble, the birth of my son, Jermell Chavante Jackson, and the chance for my grand-parents, Katie and James Cox to share in these glorious moments.
I cannot speak enough of the impact each loss has had on my life nor the encouragement and lessons I learned from developing my own business, Touch Record Studios, and enduring my recent hernia operation. Sincerely, I treasure, each and every moment I spend with family and friends, and to God be all the glory as we move forward from this day.
