This is a photograph of the only known casting for the Loritz family crest.  It is presently kept in Nittenau by a descendant of  Franz Loritz, who was an explorer, artist and historian in the late 18th century.  The exact age of this casting is uncertain, but it does predate 1780.

Pictures of the positive image are found impressed on gravemarkers in both Nittenau and in Nabburg.  This casting is of a red clay or tile substance and was likely used throughout the late eighteenth and into the nineteenth century.  Note the fragment loss at the lower left of the artifact.

What you see is the reverse image.  When pressed into wet concrete, for example, the words would be on the left and the imaging on the right.  The words read  "A FORTIORI VIRTUS" . A loose translation is Virtue before Fate.
