How It All Began: It all started back when some
a guy named Maurice Starr who was a song writer and record producer decided
it was time to start a new group. So he decided to have auditions were people
came to try out. Well after about a hundred of people found a guy named Donnie
Walberg. Donnie was amazed that he was accepted with the enjoyment of being
choosen he decided
to ask if he could maybe bring his friend there for a try out. Danny was
accepted into the group. Danny knew of some friend named Jordan, Jonathen
and Mark. He knew them because in the made a band together for fun. Jordan
Knight, Danny Wood, Mark Walhberg, Jonathan Knight and the last guy Donnie
Walhberg started a group called the crickets. It was fun to them. They would
sing at talent shows and all the places they could. Well one day things went
wrong and Mark decided to quit the group. But what he did not realize is
that one day they would become famous. Everyone asked him to stay but he
said "I can't take this group and the stress no longer". One day when the
crickets where playing, and friend Danny and Donnie introduced them to a
guy named Maurice Starr. Maurice asked if he could listen to them preform.
The guys answered "Yes". Maurice listen to them and thought they
sounded pretty
good. Maurice went away. A few days later they received a phone call from
Maurice Starr. He asked if they were interested in starting a group with
him and letting him be there manager. The guys said "Can we get back to you".
Maurice said "fine". Well later on that day the guys told Mark. Mark said
"I really don't care about it. It won't help you guys won't become famous".
The guys asked there parents. There parents said" Let me talk to him to know
more about what going on". Maurice came over and talked to all the guys parents
because he could understand. The guy were only the ages 13-16. Well the parents
said "Ok the can try to make something of there group.
So Maurice told Mary Alford that they need a guy that sonded like Micheal
Jackson or like one of the osmond Brothers. This is when a boy named Joseph
McIntyre come in the picture. Joe had a family member ask if he would like
to try out to be in a group. Joe asked his mom if he could because Joe is
only twelve at the time. Joe mom said "I guess so". Joe was excited because
he likes the idea. She told him he would try out on Father Day his family
and friends took him to Maurice to try out. The song that he had to tried
out with was Micheal Jackson "I BE THERE"
Then
after wards Joe went outside while the decided on whether they could use
him or not. Maurice said to Dick "So what do you think? I think he is good
he sound almost like Micheal Jackson". Mary answer by saying" You are write.
He is good. I think we should use him before we loose our chance. Go tell
him he got the part. Maurice told Joe family member to tell Joe he got the
job. So she went out and Joe jumped up she told him got the job. Joe was
happy. Joe went home and told everyone. Joe mom was happy for Joe. She knew
he could do it one day. Maurice came over the next day and told Joe
congratulations. Joe said "Thank You". Maurice said to Joe that they will
be practice at the studio after school on Wednesday and every Sunday for
a few week until he feels they are ready to sing in front of a crowd. A few
weeks later Joe and everyone had been practice a few songs. Maurice told
them they will be playing at in some small places. Also a mall in about a
week. After they recored a demo of a rap song called "New Kids On the Block".
The boys got excited until he said. Boys were going to have to change the
name. So Maurice said why don't we name it after our new song call New Kids
On The Block instead of the name NYNUK . After about a day or two Maurice
found a name. A name that will fit them great. It was the New Kids On The
Block. He asked everyone how they feel they said that it sounded pretty cool.
So that was it they would be know as the New Kids On The Block.
Succes From First Album: It was time a time to
rock in roll and see if everyone likes them or not. The went to the mall
and got ready for the first appearance ever. They were nervous because it
was ether boo or yelling with joy from the audience. They went on stage sang
and people danc
ed,
yelled, jumped, and yelled for more. It was successful the audience loved
them. But Mauric said that it was good but not enough. That they have to
get to everyone. At least more than 75 people. The New Kids demo tape made
the rounds until January 1986 when Columia Records signed them for a album.
After about a year the producer Maurice Starr had them record a album in
which was title "THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK". It was great while it was first
released a few people bough it know and than.Maurice Starr felt that if they
practice more they might get really good. Since there first album was a downer
because it did not sell well. It was not there fault though because they
did not get enough attention and they just did not show everyone who they
were. I guess you would expect this for a newgroup. But the boys did not
put there hope down for five years the practice sang, recorded new songs,
played and toured around. Hoping that this new album would become big. So
they tried and sang.
The Fame Began: Maurice said "It's time to put
a new album out it has been five yrs. I think we can do it I think this album
is the best yet. So they went to radio station and had them play there song
off there new album the was not released yet. This is when Mary left the
piture and Dick Scott came in. In 1986 the bad opended up for soul greats
the Four Tops and pop superstartslike Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. They toured
with Tiffany hoping people would recognize them and believe me it worked.
The song was "PLEASE DON'T GO GIRL". It was a great
song
and it started a new hold world when more songs were played on the radio
and music videos came on music station like MTV. They've appeared on TV show
like Steampipe Alley. The kid's choice award show, Nickelodeon's Block Party,
Dance Party USA, and also Arsenio Hall Show. They were hitting it big. Then
they put a music videos for viewers to take home. Everyone was buying them.
There fan club was advertized and after the album Hanging Tough was finally
released there was 1,000 of letter written to them each day it was getting
out of control. Maurice told them that they did it they were making it big.
So the Big Step Corporation started making everything the could imagine for
the New Kids fan. Then after the making of shirts, hats, and other simple
New kids Merchandise. New kids mania started. All because there album was
making big.
More Albums and a Music Award: There album Hangin
Tough was great. There songs had great meaning. Hangin Tough to me meant
stay away from drugs and alcohol. Keep together with friends. After about
a few month Marice told them it is time to tour. So they started touring.
They tour was called Hangin Tough. I though the concert was great. Especailly
the way Joe sang Please Don't Go Girl. All of there concert were sold out!!
They started to get millions of fans. I melted when I heard them. While on
tour another album was made and released for Christmas. The album was called
Merry Merry Christmas. They were great in the album to. While touring the
sang songs off that album on there Hangin Tough Tour. It was amazing how
they hit it big it was

ard
but they did it. In Boston Several hometown friends have been personnaly
awarding the Band. Especially when Governor Dukakis of Massachusette declared
April 24, 1989 as "New Kids Day". In 1989 they rode the 16 annual Bike-A-Thone
for UCP in New York City's Central Park. For 3 yrs. they appeared on the
charity's telethon. While on tour another album was made and released for
Christmas. The album was called Merry Merry Christmas. They were great in
the album to. While touring the sang songs off that album on there Hangin
Tough Tour. They show was great the had each different guy at least one dress
up as Santa Claus when the did the Christmas songs. During Hangin Tough they
started tocatch the heart of millions. Little children and Teenagers but
of all themost of the group the Fans parents. It was weird but you actually
saw Newkid fans that are adults singing there songs and dancing with the
crowd it was weird truly weird. They were on American Music Awards for the
first time. They were excited. Hoping they would win. Well they got nominated
for Best New Pop Group and they were at the edge of there sets. The said
they hope they would win. The other nomination were said and done and it
was time to open the envelope. When the said it they said" The best new pop
group is -------THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK!!!!. They were so surprise. They
came up and received there award. They thanks everyone especially there fans
for making it happen and Dick Scott. They made videos for the album "Merry
Merry Christmas". It was called this for the children. It is a song about
the children of the world who can't have everything and that we should care
and be glad that you have what you have.
Rumors: While they were big a rumor started that
they would be in Waldorf at Hechts grand opening and people believed it.
They actual went out and bought tickets from people for $3.00. It was so
pitiful because. The papers had to put in the paper that it was not true
and whoever started this rumor should be ashamed and stop spreading the rumor.
It is weird because ever since they got big alot of rumor started. Like in
The National Enquire that They are known to be in the maffia. It is ridiculous
of what rumors they say about the New Kids. I think they should stop those
ugly rumors. Well It getting close for them to come out with a new tape and
I can't
wait
because It the New Kids and they are total cool. It will be there forth album
that they have made in the past five years that they have been together it
is know to come out during the month of April of 1990. The tape will be called
Step by Step. It will features some great songs by the New Kids. It is April
and the album has not yet been released. They say it will be just a few more
weeks. When the big day comes I sure will be excited because while millions
are waiting in line I will have mine because Kmart is going to hold me a
copy and let me know when it has come it so I can buy It. Well to day the
When everone will start counting the time down to getting there New Kids
Album. It excited because at the time a family member worked at Kmart they
wwhere able to buy mine as soon as the store opens. Which is great because
I know that I will defently get mine this time. Well the counting is falling
ten, nine, eight, seven, six five, four, three, two, and one. Kmart open
I can just imaged it my family member walking in the line write now buying
my tape. It is so exciting. My family member will call as soon as she gets
it if I don't call here first. The phone rang I can't wait to answer so I
run. It is my family member saying she got my tape. Well lets get of
that subject.
They Acheived the Success Wanted: The New Kids
album became a major sucess everyday they sold millions. I remember on MTV
they were number one for 3 months or more with the song Step by Step. Man
there video was great. Especially when Joesph was spinning around. I think
as a New Kids Fan that it was a very successful and great video with alot
of meaning to it. To me the meaning of the Step By Step video is that no
matter what take everthing on step at a time. It is also telling you about
a person who is in love and wants to get the attention of the girl telling
her that she is the only one. No matter what the song as more than those
two meaning. Well anyway further down the line the New Kids became so succesful
and began to have billions join there fan club. The New Kids after about
a year came out with another video called
Games.
It to was so successful and had so much meaning to it. It told kids about
alcohol and drugs. The song was not from Step By Step because it was a differnt
Version. So then I knew there was another album coming on its way. So a week
later the New Kids fan club sent a message to all fan about the Release of
there New Album titled Games the Remix. So a few weeks later the album was
released. It was great ,my mother thought, because Christmas was coming and
she could get for me. Well anyway I was already excited because The New Kids
On the Block Dolls were coming out and it was great because I love them.
I could not wait until Christmas for present. Well the day came and Christmas
was here and I could open the present it is great. Guess what I got for Christmas
the Dolls and the No More Games Tape. So I ran down stairs and listen to
it. Boy was it Great I love the part of the Games song when Joe said Na Na
Na Na! Na Na! I should say that tape also as meaning. I like the tape but
there are some bad things about the music being remix. But I learned to love
it what can I say. December 31, 1991 is Joe Birthday and also New Years Eve.
Well on Dance Party USA I got to spend the coming of the New Year with the
New Kids on TV. In which I taped of course.
The Fame Dies: Well after the release of games the new kids fame started to die. With no release of a new album..Fan leaned toward other groups. There where still a few faithfull people out there. With the relase of A new album..a few years later "The Music Speaks Louder Than Words" The new kids fame linger a little longer but not enough for a full Blow popularity. There album did not do as well as the one before. So they died off again. Some going there own ways. Joe McIntyre made his new album do to be released some time after aug of 97. Donnie went and made a movie where he played a small part. The others went there ways. Danny have a small child. So the word is are they still together yes they are in since. Will we here another album fromt he full group. ONLY time will tell. They still today have there faitful die hard fans collecting things, listening to albums. and visiting there web pages today. I for one know they are still famous in my eyes. Keep up the work. I will be in line to get the next album. =-0

view on there music

To me all there music and songs have so much great meaning. All of them people
who does not like the New Kids if they would just sit down and listen to
there music and feel the meaning of it. I feel that they would like or understand
why we like them. To me if they would just give them a chance they could
learn to like there music. I really like there music and the message there
trying to send across. In all there songs. One major song that puts the message
across is This Ones For The Children. It meaning is so sweet and sad. To
me the meaning of This Ones For The Children is that you should not take
life for granted. They also mean that we should all stick to- gether because
we will all need each other in the future. People who listen to this songs
should be glad and appreciate what they because there are people in the would
that don't have anything. I think by this song that we should treat everyone
like brother and sister because no matter what we are apart of each other.
If you see a child and need for just a hug give it. Another song that has
alot of meaning is Hangin Tough. It meaning is a powerful one because of
the words and thought that it gives. Like going and fighting to resolve your
problems. Hangin Tough also means that we should always stick together. It
is similar to This Ones For The Children. Stop worring about your life and
just live and enjoy it. Hangin Tough telling you if you are offered drugs
say no and just Hangin in there. Well they are always telling you if you
need some help they will be someone there for you mo matter what and if you
feel there not to let you know they will be there for you.
It also means
who cares if someone is more popular then you. Don't worry about it because
you have them and yourself who cares if someone is a little different. Your
not the only one that is like that in the world. I am the same way in some
point. Some popular people are just not smart in the way they jude and decide
on what friend to have and to hang around with. Please Don't Girl to me is
a very touching. Last night I was listing to there Christmas album when I
really started to listen to the song called I still beleive in Santa Clas
it was great. I really got the meaning out of the song I think it really
sad but loving especailly when the person singing it sounds so great. Joesph
McIntyre is the singer he must of just started growing into manhood because
of the way his voice squeaked in that song but it made it great. To me that
song is about this little kid who believes in Santa Claus and thinks that
he must still be a child in heart but I feel everyone is a child in heart
weather the wanted to believe it or not. In 1990 they released Step
by step. So many song such as Step By Step, Baby, I Believe in You, Call
It What You Want, Let's Try it Again, Games, Time Is In Our Side and much
more. Tonight, is a great song about how things are at a concert how
there fans scream for them. Happy Birthday, that song it self explanatory.
=-) They excitement. This song helps explain how they feel when they are
on stage. I found Where Do I Go From Here a very touching song. Him
asking if she still loves him. This is a basic song of love , hurt and
relationships. He wants to know if they should go on or break up. Made
me think hard ihave that song stars. =-0 Later they went to release
the Face the music album in 94. This album had a lot of great song.
When Joe sung if you go away my heart melted. That song is so much reality
it hits home. How many times did you break up and was crushed. This
song explains it all. The release of Diry Dawg. That song had me falling
on the floor the song was more of a male version of what men do to us today.
To be truthful i was glad to see some guys make a stand for a change. Remember
now. Dont treat them like a tramp like a wet food stamp..LOL. Just remember
guy and gals we should respect everyone. The keep on smilin song well it
is self explanatory. =-0 If you have not yet heard this song go out
and get the CD today. =-0
