BIG NEWS!
We finally GOT ONE! As of March 2000 we finally have
a New Beetle. OK, so it's not new (it's a 1998) but with just under 16k miles
it's new enough! Once we get some nice pictures I'll post them
here!
The 1998 VW
NEW Beetle! Isn't it cool?
OK, so this isn't the actual production NEW
BEETLE that you see people driving. This is one of the first "final"
pre-production cars. See if you can spot the changes! Anyone out there have
a Cyber GREEN 98? Not many were made.
The Original CONCEPT ONE
The NEW BEETLE is finally here!
It seems like we've been waiting forever.
Volkswagen first debuted the original CONCEPT ONE show car in 1994. As (we)
expected, the car drew rave reviews from both VW fans and the general public.
Volkswagen bowed to the masses (or was it to the smell of $$$?) and went
ahead with plans to build the Concept car.
The car went through a several changes over the next few years. Probably
the biggest change was the deletion of the glass roof. Due to safety concerns
this design was dropped and we ended up with what you see below.
What do YOU think of the NEW BEETLE? Is it
everything you ever dreamed a VW could be? Or is it the ANTI-BUG?
My personal view on the New Beetle may seem a little bizarre, but then again
you may find yourself in total agreement!
First of all, the New Beetle is NOT a Bug at all. Sure, it's a VW and Volkswagen
has named it "Beetle" but what does this car share with the original Bug?
Nothing! You could say it shares a basic shape and idea but that's
it!
Let's compare...
Original Bug..........Rear Engined
(air-cooled)
New Beetle..........Front
Engined
(water-cooled)
Original Bug..........Inexpensive, Basic Transportation
New Beetle..........Moderately
Priced, Luxury
Transporation
Original Bug.........Easy to repair and maintain
New Beetle.........Easy to
take to your dealer for expensive
repairs
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the New Beetle!
I just don't think it should have been called a "Beetle." This car is not
true to it's namesake. The original Bug was designed as a "People's Car"
that was inexpensive and easy to maintain. The Original Bug is unique because
it was (and still is) the anti-car. The New Beetle is just a regular car
(a VW GOLF 4) in Beetle clothing. Sure, it's cute, but is it really a Bug?
I'm not putting it down! In fact, I think it's the coolest piece of machinery
you can buy (new) for around $16,000!
Don't forget, the original Bug is still being made in Mexico and Brasil but
we will never see them here thanks to ever increasing safety standards. Check
out a NEW ORIGINAL BEETLE from Mexico Below. Can you believe it sells for
less than $7,000 dollars?

A NEW BEETLE LIMO?!?!?! Well, sort of! This

there are some around!
The above image is a compostion of three
shots. There are 400 New Beetles in this shot!! This is from the original
Orlando introduction event of the New Beetle. (March of 1998) When we came
upon these Beetles it was an awesome sight! We drove to the nearest store
to buy a disposable camera! We have some awesome shots that we hope to have
available as prints and posters. The pic below is an altered image of one
of those shots!
Isn't this a cool image?
This is the Cartoon MARVIN which is drawn

When this site was first created owning a
New Beetle was a far off dream. However, that dream has just became
a reality! So, my trusted and beloved Golf is up for sale. Check out
my 1988 Golf GT. This car has been in the family since new and currently
has 116K miles. In case you are confused about this car, Golf GT's were only
produced for two years (1987 and 1988). The 1988 model was the only VW available
in Monza Blue. The color is a blue-green metallic. 1988 Golf GT's featured
all of the suspension parts of a regular GTI and the same 105 HP engine.
The only difference for the GT is that they had drum rear brakes, steel wheels,
and stock style Golf Seats. My GT has most of the options available for an
88 model; a sunroof, height adjustable driver's seat, power steering and
power brakes, A/C, 4-doors and an automatic transmission. The car does have
a few modifications. The original stock steel wheels have been replaced by
1995 Jetta GLS rims with 195-60x14 tires. Front brakes have been upgraded
to vented rotors. The rest of the car is stock (for now). This has been a
great car over the last twelve years. So far, the only major things that
have been replaced have been the following: Radiator, power steering rack,
A/C blower fan, and evaporator, and just recently, the A/C compressor and
drier. I think that's pretty good for 12 YEARS and over 100K miles!
Know of any other '88 Golf GT's out there? Drop me a line!
