A 6 ShaperLike to build your own tools? Here's A 6-in. Bench Shaper from the November,1928 edition of Popular Mechanics magazine.

Turn this shaper into a horizontal milling machine! Includes plans for a milling vise and additional goodies for the shaper. Thanks to Joe Landau, I've gotten a copy of the article "P.M. Shaper Makes Good Miller" from the 1930 Popular Mechanics magazine.

Link to Barry Workman's SiteFor you Dave Gingery fans, (Hi Vince!), this shaper is a link to a page showing Barry Workman's versions of Dave's machine tools. By the way, it was Barry who got me started on model engineering, which directly lead to starting this web site.

Here are plans for a Belt Sander or Linisher.

Looking for a Collet Chuck? Make this one from Model Craftsman Magazine, in 1937.

Make your own Die Castings with this Pressure Molding Machine from Model Craftsman Magazine, in 1939.

Here are plans to build a Tool Post Grinder, also from Model Craftsman Magazine, in 1937.

Here's a Surface Grinder for the Model Engineer, also from Model Craftsman Magazine, From August, 1937.

Robert Langlois and Village Press have done it up right.

Here's a picture of the Ball Turning Tool I made from Jay Tuckwood's plans on the Metal Web News site.

Lathe Tool Bit Grinding

Here's a chart I did up for a Machinist training class I'm taking. It is used to illustrate the use of side relief, end relief and rake angles when grinding tool bits for use in your lathe.

Click here to see the chart. It also prints out very nicely. Next, comes a page on single point cutting tool shapes. The arrows show the direction of cut.

Here are some pictures of me working a Drop Hammer, as discussed on the forge mailing list.
