TalkTime English Conversation Programs

If you are an international student, a visiting scholar or a spouse of them here in the Berkeley, Oakland or Palo Alto area, you are invited to participate in the "TalkTime" English Conversation Program. TalkTime is a great opportunity for non-native English speakers to gain confidence in speaking English, to increase vocabulary, and to make friends with Americans and other international students. The classes are designed to help international students and scholars practicing their English through interacting with the teachers and other classmates. The atmosphere is casual and friendly and the class is free.

The teachers are very nice Americans (or U.S. resident), many have experience in teaching English as a second language and some have taught English overseas. You will have a lot of opportunity to speak up as well as practice your listening comprehension in the small classes. You may also bring your questions to the class to get help. Each time we will discuss a general-interest topic in groups of probably 2 to 4 people, with one native (or fluent) English speaker facilitating each group. Current tutors to students ratio is about 1:2 on average. Here are pictures of some of our tutors:

Hear some of the encouraging feedback from the students and scholars:

"Finally, today someone pointed out what I have been saying wrong since I started learning English 15 years ago." - Bonnie

"Though I come to the class for learning English, I eventually learned a lot more than that in these days from you guys. You can't imagine how happy I was every class's morning. Seeing everyone, talking to you, and playing with Joyce and JJ is something hard to forget. And it's all because of you and David's dedication. So I really think I owe you two a big hug!" - Mindi's email

"Thank you for your kindness and your help. Due to your arrangement, I had a good time in TalkTime English Conversation Club..." -Natsumoto's email

"...By the way, many thanks for your nice work that we can practice oral English and know so many nice friends, but I am going back to China soon. I only regret I didn't hear about TalkTime sooner. I will miss you all." -Wang's email

"If I come back, I will join the group again!" -Yu

This is a wonderful opportunity to sharpen your English while making friends and having fun with international friends and Americans alike! Please join us!
