The
dubbed version of Sailor Moon has been butchered so badly
that it also could be another series. Unfortunately,
Sailor Pluto has been dubbed due to the fact the Sailor
Moon R was completely dubbed. Dubbed Sailor Moon S is
also on the air, and I had the honor of seeing the
episode in which she appears.
Sailor
Pluto made her first appearence on dubbed television in
the DIC episodes of R. Rini had clicked on Luna ball's
nose, and a blurry fgure of a woman appeared. That woman
was no other than Sailor Pluto (of course, new viewers
hadn't known that yet.) Sailor Pluto made a more formal
appearance in Dic episode 68: Secret of the Luna Sphere.
Rini has been sick for 3 days, and no one can help her.
The Luna Ball floats into the air, and a miniature Sailor
Pluto appears. She makes the 'scouts' appear in Rini's
dreams to save her. When the scouts save the day, Rini
wants to go, but Pluto says she can't. She thanks the
scouts and disappears.
We
see Sailor Pluto again in Dic episode 75, Future Shocked,
the scouts make it to the Gates of Time. Sailor Koon
arrives alone, and she sees a shadowy figure who is, of
course, Sailor Pluto. Pluto attacks Sailor Moon, but Rini
stops her. Pluto allows the scouts through the gates of
time, and Luna explains how she had heard of a solitary
scout who lives alone in the Nether Realm and protects
the gates of time for all eternity. (They'll be more info
on her NA dubed personafor R once I see it again)
The
newly dubbed Sailor Moon S was not ubbed by DIC. Instead,
it is dubbed my CWI. On the episodeof July 10th, we meet
the dubbed Setsuna. We first see her listening in on
Darien and Rini's conversation. We later her see her
talking to Sailor Moon after Uranus and Neptune left on
their helicopter. She introduces herself as Trista Meioh.
The next episode, Trista transforms into Sailor Pluto by
saying, "Pluto Star Power!" (Note: In the
original, Japanese version, Setsuna says Pluto *Planet*
Power, Make Up! The star transformation isn't used until
later on in the series. *choke* Leave it to the dubbing
company to make such an awful mistake.)
Trista's
character basically stays the same throughout the rest of
the season. The only thing is that she doesn't seem as
mysterious as she should (and her voice isn't smooth like
Setsuna's ::had to say it::) One awful thing CWI did was
when Trista stopped time on dubbed episode __ (Japanese
ep 124), and after Uranus and Neptune defeated the
daimons with their "treasures", she had a
conversation with them, telling them good luck and all
this other stuff/crap. This didn't happen in the
original. (Sarcasm note: She was sucked into the
negaverse, she really isn't dead or being punished for
stopping time. RIGHT, CWI) Another thing that was bad on
the dubs part was cutting Japanese episode 119. Trista
would have had a fairly good speaking part, and how would
viewers know Hotaru is Sailor Saturn.
More
personal note: as on can see, I'm not fond of the dubbed
SMS at all; it was butchered horribly. I do know CWI had
to edit it so that American parents wouldn't have a
coniption.... Oh I don't know. I wish Americans weren't
so uptight about homosexuality, death, sex, etc. Kids
will find out about this stuff probably by the age of 10,
and it isn't evil for crying out loud! America is the
land of the free, am I right? If it is, then Haruka and
Michiru lesbian relationship should not have been
changed. Screw censorship, it is obvious what those two
are even if they are now labeled as cousins. Also, this
dubbing job was very rushed; they didn't bother
translating random kanji on the screen. The names of
attacks and items were constantly changed (IE: Pure Heart
Crystal, Pure Heart, etc). Voice actresses were awful (a
little emotion could help...especially in Amara's voice.)
