For better or for worse, I seem to avoid easy classification. At various times in my life, I've been a computer programmer, a ballet dancer, a writer, a hand knit designer. Most importantly, though, I choreograph and run my own dance company in Manhattan,
Dance As Ever.Briefly, I was born in 1963 at the precipice of the Baby Boom in Manhattan and raised in Mamaroneck, a small town 26 miles to the north of New York City.
I went to Brandeis University in 1979 (I turned 16 a few months after I got there) and graduated Magna Cum Laude by my asshole hairs. (One needed a 3.35 GPA with departmental honors. I had a 3.38)
I began my ballet training tentatively in 1981, and in earnest in 1983. I danced professionally with a few companies, but moved towards choreography early. My choreography has been performed by Vermont Ballet Theatre, Atlanta Ballet II, Princeton Ballet II, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Lexington Ballet, Ballet Pacifica and Virginia Ballet Theatre but the majority of it has been for my own company,
Dance as Ever. The company and I were jointly awarded a 1998 Choo-San Goh award for choreography. I received a fellowship in choreography from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 2001. My writing has appeared in Dance Now, Ballet Review, Dance View and Knitters magazine, and my knitting designs have also appeared in Knitters. So if you're looking for a talented ballet choreographer or writer, (and about more than just dance or knitting, I do ad copy, press releases and grant proposals awfully well) someone to speak to your group on knitting or dance, do workshops on knitting or you're interested in my designs, click here.Click on the following to read more about:
