Mom's Chanel-Style Jacket
Mom's Chanel-Style Jacket
Making a sweater for the Momster was one of the most painstaking projects I've ever done, because she is particular about her likes and dislikes. I first started this project in some not-so-awful acrylic because she wanted something she could care for, but that was abandoned because I was doing the linen stitch pattern on needles too small for the stitch, my gauge was off, I was thrilled by the idea of seamless knitting (having read WAY too much Elizabeth Zimmermann) and was trying to make a one piece jacket with knitted darts. Really bright.

I then started several multicolored projects for her, which were abandoned because I felt she would never wear them. Finally I returned to my original idea, but in better yarn and larger needles. There are about 20 shades of various fibers in the jacket, ranging from red to wine and was my first attempt at making a multi-colored garment with all the colors in one range. It's a very nice way to get color interest, while still creating a wearable item. Color blending was achieved not only by the linen stitch, but by using two strands of yarn, and varying one of them at a time.
