Chapter Eleven
Stephen Wing's
grandchildren
Children of Nathaniel
Wing and Sarah Hatch:
1. Keziah Wing, born about 1689
at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, married John
Handy on November 14, 1704 in Sandwich, Barnstable,
Massachusetts.
2. Nathaniel Wing Jr., born about
1692 at Sandwich, married Jemima Blackmer (Blackmore) in
Rochester, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts on December 1,
1716.
3. Ebenezer Wing, born in
1694 at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, married
Elizabeth (Jane) Blackmore (Blackmer), the older sister
of Jemima Blackmore who married Ebenezer's older brother,
Nathaniel Wing. Ebenezer and Elizabeth were married on
October 31, 1721 at Rochester, Plymouth Co.,
Massachusetts.
4. Sarah Wing, born at Sandwich,
Massachusetts, died at Falmouth, Barnstable Co.,
Massachusetts. Sarah Wing married Meletiah Nye on
December 11, 1712. Sarah died in 1734 at about the age of
thirty-nine. Meletiah Nye married (2) Jemima Unknown.
When Sarah Wing married Meletiah Nye, she became a member
of two of the most prominent families on the Cape; Tupper
and Nye.
Meletiah Nye was the son of Ebenezer Nye and Sarah
Gibbs, grandson of Benjamin Nye and Katherine Tupper,
great-grandson of Thomas Tupper and Katherine Gator. The
Nye family history can be traced back to the fourteenth
century; Lave (Nye) who was a son of a descendant of
Harold Blautand, who died in 985, through his daughter,
who married one of the most famous of the Swedish heroes,
Styribiorn, son of Olaf, King of Sweden. He became a man
of prominence and in 1316 was Bishop of Roskilde.

Benjamin Nye came to New England on the Abigail,
along with Thomas Tupper. Perhaps it was
on the Abigail that the twenty-five year old Benjamin Nye
noticed Thomas Tupper's daughter, Katherine Tupper,
because they were married in 1640. (The "fact" that Thomas Tupper
and Benjamin Nye came over together on the Abigail is
disputed in the book; Thomas Tupper and His Descendants .
Will of Meletiah Nye, husband of Sarah
Wing
After the death of Sarah Wing, Meletiah Nye
married (2) Jemima Unknown.
Melatiah 3 Nye (Ebenezer 2, Benjamin 1). It is
highly probable that the second wife; "Jemima
(???)" was Jemima Swift, born Sandwich 12 October
1695, daughter of Samuel and Mary Swift. The will of the
widow Jemima Nye as given in Vol. I names "my cousin
Stephen Swift." It is well known that the term
cousin at that period was generally used to designate a
nephew, or a niece. In this case Samuel Swift had a son
Zaccheus Swift, who would have been a younger brother of
Jemima (Swift) Nye, and Zaccheus Swift's son Stephen
Swift who was baptized in Sandwich 16 December 1742 is,
we believe, the only person of that name who could have
been the legatee named in the will of Jemima Nye. (From
The Nye Family Genealogy, Volume II)

Second wife of Meletiah Nye
5. Hozea Wing, born 1702 at
Pocasset, married William Parlow in Sandwich, Barnstable,
Massachusetts on March 14, 1726/27.

30, 1704 at Pocasset in the Natty Wing
House, married twice; (1) Sarah Brownell, (2) Mary
Blackmer (Blackmore)
7.
Mary Wing, born about 1705. Wing historians claim that
Mary Wing never married. Although it's just a hunch at
this point, my belief is that Mary Wing married Elnathan
Nye, brother of Meletiah Nye, who married Sarah Wing,
Mary Wing's sister. According to the Nye Family History,
Volume One, Ebenezer Nye, born at Falmouth,
Massachusetts, married Mary Wing on December 23, 1731.
While it doesn't give the parents of Mary Wing, it notes
that Ebenezer Nye died on March 5, 1772 at the age of
forty-one, without issue, it just seems very likely that
the Mary Wing he married was Nathaniel Wing's daughter.
Elnathan Wing provided for his widow in lieu of her
dower in his will.
