There have been LYNN families in Prince William County, Virginia since as early as 1756. Most LYNNs appear to have been descended from Michael LYNN and William LYNN, who were quite probably brothers. There is also a possibility that John LYNN of Fauquier County, Virginia (once part of Prince William Co.) may also have been a brother or close relation.
This site is my attempt to help other LYNN researchers who may be able to trace their ancestry to Prince William and its neighboring counties. These pages are by no means complete and are constantly under construction.
Sources for the information contained herein include county court records, wills, deeds, marriage and tax records; obituaries; headstones from county cemeteries; Virginia Bureau of Vital Statistics records; census; WPA reports; various books on Prince William County (courtesy of R.E.L.I.C., Bull Run Library, Manassas, VA); and the invaluable book My Lynn Families (2nd ed., 1977) by George H. Lynn.
It is my hope that LYNN researchers browsing these pages will find useful information and/or new resources herein.
I've spent quite a lot of time organizing and transcribing these records. Please feel free to link to this page but DO NOT cut and paste any portion of this website onto another web page without express permission. Thank you for your understanding!

if it shall actually take place,
no matter by whom brought on, we must defend ourselves.
If our house be on fire... we must try to extinguish it."
