JOSEPH R. LYNN
Prince William County, Virginia
Will Book P, page 290 - Division of Land

Pursuant to this will of Joseph R. Lynn dec.' by the request of Wm. M. and L. A. Lynn the Exors. of said will and the undersigned, acting as commissioners have this day proceeded divide the land of dec.'d in Prince William County on the waters of Quantico whereon the said Lynn formerly lived where he was a resident of Prince William County. And we have alotted the north western portion as is hereby laid out to William B. Davis Virlenda N. Davis his wife formerly Virlenda N. Lynn. Beginning at this road where the said land formerly run on the line between the said Lynn dec'd V. Joshua Taylor and running as the said line goes north 72 west as (may) be seen in the old plot which is dolled of in said plot a straight course with and Joshua Taylors land to a stone corner in the eighth line in the said old plat then 341 W to a stump thence S15 E63 poles thence S 4-4 E10 to maple in the run thence with the hayfield land as the fence now runs till it strikes the 13th line on said plat about 50 poles north of the stone pile which is corner to the south end of the 13th line where we have established a corner at a small box oak about 10 feet from where the fence now stands east of said fence thence a straight line now an east corner to a lapped white oak on the east side of the main road, thence up said road as it now goes to the beginning supposed to contain upwards of two hundred acres and the balance of said tract to Basil Cole and Rebecca C. Cole his wife formerly Rebecca C. Lynn. Given under hands this 22d day of October 1845.

Will date September 1853; Probate date 3 October 1853

I LUCIEN B. LYNN being of sound mind but weak in Boddy and knowing the certainty of death and uncertainty of life do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I desire that my Boddy shall be decently Buried by the directions of my Executor herein after named and that he shall pay all my just debts and after my Estate is all collected together I desire that my Executor shall pay to each person here after named one Eleventh part as follows, to THOMPSON LYNN my Father one eleventh and to DELIA LYNN wife of THOMPSON LYNN one-eleventh to MORTIMER N. LYNN my brother one eleventh to WILLIAM M. LYNN my brother one eleventh to MILTON LYNN my brother one eleventh to my sister MARGARET DAVIS one eleventh to SALLY F. LYNN my sister one eleventh to MARY C. DAVIS one eleventh to CARLINE I. LYNN my half sister one eleventh to ALBERT LYNN son of my father THOMPSON LYNN one eleventh to HARVEY LYNN son of my father THOMPSON LYNN one eleventh. I appoint my uncle SEYMOUR LYNN to sell my land cal[l]ed Briddle place for the best price he can in money and divide it as my Estate heretofore named it is strictly desired by me that my bed and all the clothing belonging to the same is not to go into the hands of my Executor here after named not to be considered as a part of my estate divided as I desire that the bed and clothing shall be taken possession and held by my sister SALLY F. LYNN as her property separate and apart from her share here to fore named. Lastly I appoint my friend and uncle SEYMOUR LYNN my Executor to this my last will and testament. Witness my hand and seal this day of September Eighteen hundred and fifty-three.

In the name of God Amen the 27th day of April 1805 I MICHAEL LYNN of the County of Prince William and Commonwealth of Virginia being weake in boddy but in my proper sences do make constitute ordain and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament or Testaments will and wills heretofore by me made and declare either by word or writing and this is to be taken only for my last will and Testament and none other, and now for settling my temporal estates and such goods Chattells and Debts as it hath pleased god fare above my deserts to bestow upon me. I do order give and dispose the same in manner and formes of allowing that is to say first I will that all these debts and dues as I owe in right or conscience to any person or persons shall be paid in Convenient time after my Deceas By my Executors hereafter named. Item I give to my beloved son MOSSES LYNN one hundred acres of land where JESSE CALVERT formerly lived on itm I give to my beloved sun JOHN LYNN the remainder of land where I now live on Item I give my Negrow woman Nell to my beloved Daughter ELIZABETH ARNELL. Item I give Negrow Sam to be Equally divided between my two suns MOSSES LYNN and JOHN LYNN. Item I give to my Daughter JENE COPPEN five pounds. Item my desires are that all the rest of my property be Equally devided between my three Daughters ELIZABETH ARNELL and BARBERY BURN and JENE COPPEN, I do apoint my sun JOHN LYNN and MOSES LYNN my Executors.

At a Court held for Prince William County December 7th 1807 this last Will and Testament of MICALE LYNN dec'd was presented to the Court and being proved by the Oaths of JOHN MATHEWS and WILLIAM CORNEWELL was ordered to be recorded. And JOHN LYNN one of the Executors named in the last will and Testament of MICALE LYNN dec'd came into Court and made Oath to the same according to Law and having taken the Oath of an Executor and performed what is usual in such cases Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

This Will made on this third Day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight. This being my Last will and testament and I now being in sound mind I will to my Beloved wife ELIZABETH LYNN one third of all my personal property and the balance of my personal property is to be sold and equally Divided between my son WILLIAM and my Daughter POLLY SMITH, my son JAMES and my grand son ROBERT LYNN and ELIZABETH STEADMAN and my son ISAAC LYNN and ANDREW J. LYNN and LEROY LYNN. I also will that my wife ELIZABETH LYNN shall have the use of all my land and real Estate for her support during her life time and at her death I will all my land and real estate to my son EZEKIEL LYNN.

I appoint my son EZEKIEL LYNN administrator of my Estate.

At a Court held for Prince William County the 4th day of May 1868. This last will and testament of MOSES LYNN deceased was this day produced in Court and proved by the oaths of A. J. DAVIS and ROBERT LYNN subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. On motion of EZEKIEL LYNN who made oath thereto as an Executor according to law and together with A. J. DAVIS and THOMAS CLARKE as his securities who testified as to their sufficiency entered into and acknowledged above in the penalty of one thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs letters testamentary of the estate of the decedent and granted him in due form.

Itm Leave my Loving wife all the estate that I have in during her Life. Itm NILEY LYNN Cate. Itm RUTH LYNN the hus and half land. Itm LIZABETH LYNN other half. Itm NACY LYNN one hundred pound to be paid out of my Efect if JOSEPH can by a negro gal about 10.12 years age then make Negros Equil to Land and divide the Rest.

NEHEMIAH LYNN Nov. 16th 1822

[Transcriber’s Note: There are three additional lines after Nehemiah’s signature that have been stricken giving his “...daughter ELENDER P. LYNN negro girl named Cate...,” but at some point he cut her from the will. (This is probably the same “Cate” given to Nehemiah’s wife, NILEY LYNN.)]

At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for Prince William County March 1st, 1824. This last will and testament of NEHEMIAH LYNN deceased was presented to the Court and it appearing by the Testamony of JOSEPH R. LYNN and SEYMOUR LYNN that the said will is all in the hand writing of the said NEHEMIAH LYNN the same is ordered to be recorded and administration with the said will annexed of the said NEHEMIAH LYNN decd. is granted to JOSEPH C. LYNN who came into court and took the oath prescribed by law and executed a bond with security conditioned as the law directs.

In the name of God amen October 8th 1792 I WILLIAM LYNN of the parish of Dettengin and County of Prince William being unwell at this time, and knowing the uncertainty of Life do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth. Impv: I commending soul to almighty God who gave it and my Body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried at the Discretion of My Executor and hereafter named. I Item as for my worldly goods that God hath bestoed on me I give and bequeath as followeth. Item I give and bequeath to my three youngest daughters as followeth; To JENNY LYNN one feather bed to be paid her at the day of Marriage, to PRUDENCE LINN one feather bed and a Cow & Calf to be paid at the day of Marriage, to ELIZABETH LYNN one feather bed and a cow and calf to be paid at the Day of Marriage. Item I give and bequeath to my son JOSEPH LYNN, a Cow and Calf to be paid when he shall arrive to lawful age. Item I give and bequeath to my two Grandsons, THORNTON, and BENSON LYNN, the land whereon JOHN LYNN now lives, so much as lies between the fork of the road belonging to the Old Tract equally to be divided between them at the Death of my wife ELIZABETH LYNN. Item I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM LYNN the lease of the plantation where I live to possess at the death of myself and wife; & to the rest of my land & adjoining to the place before mentioned, I leave to be sold at the Death of My wife ELIZABETH LYNN and in case of her Death in the minority of my youngest Daughter the land shall remain to be sold when my youngest Daughter shall be of lawful age, for twelve months Redit with Bonds and good Security; and as to the rest of my Estate, I leave it all to my loving wife during her widowhood to be equally to be divided Between my living children excepting my sons JOHN and WILLIAM LYNN at her death or marriage. Item I do appoint my loving wife, and my sons, NEHEMIAH and WILLIAM LYNN Executors of this my last Will and Testament. Signed with my hand and sealed in presence of

And at a Court held for the said County the 7th day of September 1795, WILLIAM LYNN one of the Executors named in this last Will and Testament made oath to the same, and having taken the Oath of an Executor and Given Bond with Security according to Law, Certificate & Granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form and cause is reserved to the other Executors to qualify to the said Will hereafter if they think proper.
