First Olive Branch Primary Chess Championship a Success!
by Connie Newcomb
Hep, Hep, Hurray!!!
The 2005 Olive Branch Primary Chess Championship held Sunday, May 1st is a success. 15 kids participated. Considering that this tournament is Olive Branch's first and open only to City scholastic chess players, 15 is a good turnout.
A special thanks to Chickasaw Elementary Gifted/Spotlight teachers for encouraging their students to attend this tournament.
If we continue with this local interests towards scholastic chess, we may be able to set our eyes in competing for the state title, The Mississippi Scholastic State Champions in the future.
Let's bring home the bacon (err... State Trophy) next year.
Our plan for the Olive Branch Scholastic Chess Championship in 2006 is to expand into 2 Divisions; Primary Division (for Kindergarten to 3rd grade students) and Elementary Division (for 4th to 5th graders).
