How can loneliness be a state of mind
And yet, hurt inside your chest;
When there's a hardness in your throat
And your eyes blink away the mist?
You think that everyone else's world
Is nothing but fun, no pain;
All their days are filled with sunshine
While you stand alone, in the rain?
I guarantee there are raindrops
Falling almost everywhere;
Of course, there are some who cannot cry,
But their numbers are pretty rare.
For them, I feel the worst of all;
They are hardened, and that is sad;
When first I felt the forgiving rain,
I thought that it was bad.
But, now, I know tears for what they are:
Ornaments of peace;
The teardrop shape, in any language,
Is the symbol for human release.
