Open, Says Me
Open your self to me;
We are different, yet, allied;
Cast aside your ugly mask
And let all see inside.
Do not hide from others
What you cannot hide from me;
I see beneath your self-ugliness,
And I know your inner beauty.
I feel the same things you do,
Perhaps at different times;
All people share the same needs;
I share mine in rhymes.
Speak to me your self-doubts;
I cannot ridicule;
I must bear my own cross,
But, I am not a fool:
I fight my inner warrior,
Great Mightier~than~thou;
I'm trying to cast him from me,
Though I have not yet found how;
He comes upon me with jealousy,
With greediness and lust;
He will not stand before you, naked,
Filled with shame and mistrust.
I know I can defeat him,
But I could use your help;
Take off your mask before me,
I've just shown you my inner self.
Tell me, then, do you not see
That we are much the same?
What foolishness to wear those masks,
It seems such a silly game.
