     (Last update: 7/9/04) Not all of this information is correct. I am also still updating. The father of John (first on this chart) is David REES who emigrated from Montgomery County, N Wales in 1733.He apparently settled in Kent County DE.

2.      Jeremiah REES born 1759 in Kent, Delaware. He married Rhoda WALLACE about 1790 in Delaware. .

            3.       i       Abel REES born 1791.

 

THIRD GENERATION

 

3.      Abel REES born 1791 in Kent County Delaware, died May 29 1875, Monongalia County WV. Abel married Ruth DAVIS. Ruth was born 1792 in Pennsylvania (daughter of Philip DAVIS and Hanna JENKINS) and died July 23 1866. Census and deed signatures indicate Ruth is illiterate. Abel served a very brief stint in the War Of 1812 as a Corporal. From HISTORY OF MONONGALIA COUNTY by Willey, "Captain Daniel Stewart raised a company for Colonel A. Wood's regiment, and marched for Norfolk, but only reached Dunkard Bottom in Preston County, when the news of peace arrived, and the men were discharged, having served from February 20 to March 4, 1815."

FOURTH GENERATION

 

4.      Philip Davis REESE was born May 31 1823 in Morgantown (W)VA. He married Charlotte HATFIELD March 8 1870, in Wirt County WV. , Charlotte, the daughter of Moses HATFIELD and Catherine JOHN was born May 10 1823 in Uniontown PA. and died December 29 1912 in Palestine WV. Philip Davis Reese came to Burning Springs as a rig builder from Hopwood PA during the oil boom. Philip's only brother went to California during the Gold Rush and was never heard from again. Philip was a Carpenter.

                      i       Isabelle REESE born August 31 1850, died December 14 1930,  She never married.  Her name could be "Annabelle"

                      ii     John William REESE born in 1852. He married Jerusha MODISETTE.

                     iii       Jenny REESE married John HUFFMANN .

            6.       iv       Caroline Agnes REESE born July 13 1855.

                      v       Jacob Lewis Cass REESE b.1849 in Cumberland MD. He married Clara TIMS May 20, 1871 in Wirt County WV. Clara was born 1849 in Wirt County (W)VA, Daughter of William D and Bittanna TIMMS. .

                     vi       James Buchanan REESE born March 31 1857, died June 3 1913. He never married.

                     vii       Nancy Brunetta REESE born 1860, died 1949. Postmistress - Never married.

            7.       viii       R Andrew REESE born 1862.

            8.       ix       Lester Shellenberger REESE born 1864.

                      x       Gertrude "Gertie" REESE born 1868 in Wirt County WV, married Robert H WISEMAN April 11 1888, in Wirt County (W)VA. Robert, the son of Caleb and Susan C Wiseman, was born in 1858, also in Wirt County.

                     xi       Anna J REESE born 1845, Fayette County PA. 1850 census lists her as Anna L and age of 5. This may be the same person as "Jenny" (number "iii" above), who married John Huffman).

 

5.      Edgar REES born May 6 1833, (W)VA, died May 16 1894, Monongalia County WV. Edgar married Mary Artemesia SCOTT, who was born in 1840 (W)VA, died in 1926. Both are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Monongalia County WV.

                         Children:

                      i       Gertrude REES born May 24 1879, d. May 9 1915.

 

FIFTH GENERATION

 

6.      Caroline "Carrie" Agnes REESE born July 13 1855, Fayette County PA, died April 10 1935 in Wirt County WV. Carrie married John Atkinson RATHBONE April 13 1875 in Wirt County WV. John (son of Samuel BROWN and Mahaley Jane (Grant) Rathbone) was born December 28 1851 in Fox Island/New Haven ME and died January 13 1935 in Wirt County WV. He is listed as widower in this second marriage to Carrie. He was previously married Ora FERRILL (Aura Terrill) in 1866 or 1867, whom he divorced. She is thought to have died shortly after. In addition to working in the timber business, John was also sheriff of Wirt County at one time.

7.      R Andrew REESE born 1862 in PA, married Addie THORN June 13 1892 in Wirt County WV. Addie (daughter of Samuel and Docie Thorn) was born 1874 in Wirt County WV.

                         Children:

                      i       Ruth REESE born August 29 1893 in Wirt County WV.

                      ii     B B REESE born November 18 1903 in Wirt County WV.

 

8.      Lester Shellenberger REESE born 1864 in Fayette County PA married Margaret Pearl THORN July 30 1892 in Wirt County WV. Lester was a carpenter by trade. Margaret (daughter of Alfred S. THORN and Elizabeth BOOHER) was born March 23 1876 in Hazelton IN, died October 26 1956 Wood County WV. Lester and Margaret are buried in Palestine WV.

                         Children:

                      i       Mark Melrose REESE born April 18 1899 in Palestine WV (Wirt County), died 1967.

                      ii     Rita Viola REESE born August 9 1901 in Palestine WV (Wirt County), died 1984 in Parkersburg WV. Rita married Robert G HOPKINS (son of Daniel S. and Lucy Hopkins) on December 28 1925 in Wirt County WV. Robert was born about 1901.

                     iii       Elizabeth C REESE born 1903 in Palestine WV (Wirt County), died 1989 in Parkersburg WV. Elizabeth married Von G OTT (son of Robert D and Elma Ott) on June 1 1926 in Wirt County WV. Von was born about 1904.

                     iv       Nellie Pearl REESE born 1907 in Palestine WV (Wirt County), died 1984 in Wheeling WV. She married Kenneth S TURNER (son of Cecil and Maud Turner) on December 25 1927 in Wirt County WV. Kenneth was born in 1904.

            9.       v       Paul Revere REESE born June 4 1910.

                     vi       Alfred Davis REESE born February 18 1922 in Palestine WV (Wirt County).

 

Sixth Generation

 

9.      Paul Revere REESE born June 4 1910 in Palestine WV (Wirt County), died January 12 1986 in Parkersburg WV at St. Joseph's Hospital. Paul married Mildred Ruth ANDRICK in 1928, Palestine WV. Mildred was born July 22 1908 in Jackson County WV, (daughter of Charles Everett ANDRICK and Iva ROWAND) and died August 21 1988 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg WV. Paul and Mildred are buried at Sunset Memory Gardens in South Parkersburg WV. Paul helped his Aunt, Nancy Brunetta Reese, in the post office and on the mail boat (Elizabeth-Burning Springs). He later did carpentry work with his brother Mark. Paul and Mildred moved to Belleville in 1936 and went to work at Lock 20. He settled 3 miles north of lock on Parkersburg Road. After a few years Paul was promoted to Asst Lock Master and moved to lock property. They stayed until Lock 20 abandoned for new lock 2 miles downstream. When Paul retired, he built a home in the lot next to land he donated for the new Methodist church and worked for the BOE as a carpenter. During her later years, Mildred worked at Parkersburg High School helping to cook meals. After Paul died, Mildred sold the house and bought a mobile home that was placed on the Matheny farm near Lubeck. She suffered a brain aneurism soon after and spent time in a nursing home before she died at St. Joseph's Hospital in 1988. Four daughters.
