Western Writers Chat Remembers  Charlie Hunt

OCTOBER    2004                                                             SPECIAL   ISSUE

MEMORIAL TRIBUTE

CHARLES E. HUNT
( Charlie )

1927 ~ 2004

I WOULD GO AGAIN TO THE MOUNTAINS

Oh, it's high upon the mountain
Where man's feet have seldom trod
That I'd like to spend an hour
At the footstool of my God

Yes. it's high upon the mountain
Where the winter blizzards blow
An' even summer sunshine
Leaves the mountain capped in snow

Where the rocky crags reach skyward
With the clouds around their feet
An' the mountain goat an' bighorn
Are the company you keep.

Though my youth no longer lingers
An' ol" age has bid me stop
Still my heart an' mind keep turnin'
To that barren mountain top

Where I've spent those silent hours
Far above man's mortal sod --
An' once more I would sit again
At the footstool of my God

For I have no friend who's dearer,
I know His love will never stop.
An' someday I will sit with Him
Far above the mountain's top.

Until then we'll walk together,
In His company I'll trod,
But my heart an' mind are yearnin'
For the footstool of my God.

Charlie Hunt passed away, October 8, 2004 with heart complications. His funeral was Tuesday, October 12 at the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Rapid City, South Dakota.

His warm, congenial smile will always be remembered by those who knew him. He was a delightful friend to everyone. His monthly newsletter, SCENE FROM THE SADDLE offered his humor and wonderful life experience and was a joy to read. The last issue, Charlie wrote about love. Certainly, that is what Charlie always gave to his many friends. We will all miss his wonderful outlook and cheerful greetings. He was a man who was tall in the saddle.
