*************Protocol for 12 Step Chat Meetings**********

Some of the closed private meetings use protocol. This means there is usually a chair/speaker who "calls" on people who "raise their hand." You raise your hand by typing ! for a comment and ? for a question. When you are done "talking" you type /ga meaning go ahead I am done. Someone may keep a que which means they periodically send a list of the people with ! and ? in the order they raised their hands to the screen to help the chair keep track of who is next. The chair will call on you by saying something like GA CleanToday. If you need to leave just leave or send a simple "Bye all" to the screen. While the meeting is in progress, please do not extend the usual hellos and goodbyes to everyone coming and going. Before the chair starts the meeting and after it is closed the protocal is not in effect. Don't worry about getting this all right, just try. Progress not perfection! :)

****************** Recovery Chat Rooms ******************

Recovery Chat Rooms like Recoverylink are much less formal. Recoverylink is not affiliated with any particular program. These rooms are more like sober picnics than meetings. Have fun and laugh and if you need a real meeting ask about when and where they are! :)
o Those of you new to our on-line community might be surprised to find how ecumenical some of our recovery gatherings are. That is to say, that you will often find AA, NA, OA, RR, and even non program people mixing and sharing in many of the rooms. Please be tolerant of others beliefs about recovery. If you feel the need for a meeting that sticks to the traditions of one particular program try the private room meetings or the email meetings rather than the public and member room meetings.
o Anonymity is a sensitive issue for some as our recovery community here on AOL has grown. Please treat any screennames here with the same respect for privacy that you would treat the names of people you meet at meetings. Thanks! :)

**************** Forums *********************************

o There are Recovery Forums on AOL, CompuServe, and Delphi. Try keyword AA on AOL

**************** Email Meetings *************************

These are done through email rather than in live chat rooms. There is often one topic for the week to which people respond. Email the contact person for specific info :)

This list is unofficial and compiled by friends in recovery.
No official affiliation with any service office of any 12 step program nor with America On-Line should be inferred.
