The Framingham Chapter DAR was organized on October 2, 1896 by Mrs. Elisha M. White (Sarah) who served as Regent until 1899. The Chapter received its Charter from the National Society (founded in 1890) on October 13, 1896. Today the Chapter membership is over one hundred enthusiastic and friendly ladies of all ages from Framingham and the surrounding communities. The Chapter holds most of its meetings on Sunday afternoons with a variety of guest speakers and programs.

The Framingham Chapter celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1996 and continues to promote education and patriotism into the next millennium. Several programs involve the young people of the Framingham area. Seven high school senior classes participate annually in the Good Citizen Program; which recognizes dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in the school, home and community.
For the younger children, the American History Essay Contest is open to grades 5 through 8. The Framingham Chapter winner for the 5th grade also won the Massachusetts State category and placed third in the Northeast Regional competition as well.
The Chapter also supports our country’s Veterans with a variety of activities. One which has become a tradition for the Chapter is the making of “saddlebags” for the hospitalized Veterans’ walkers and wheelchairs. Last year, the Framingham Chapter actively participated in the preservation and rededication of Natick’s Revolutionary Soldier’s Memorial.
