A
"Shootout" is a social gathering of Mavicans with the purpose
of having some "Mavica photo fun". It's a good
opportunity to meet other Mavicans, make friends, take photos, swap
Mavica & photographic technique, tell stories (some real, some not
;-), see the local attractions, and generally be on holiday for a day or
more.
Why the name "shootout"? Well,... in true spaghetti western fashion, the first "shootout" occurred at high noon on November 14, 1998 when Craig, Jorgy!, and George agreed to meet at the Old Country Buffet in Manassas, VA. They labeled their meeting the "Manassas Shootout" and the term "shootout" has been carried forward ever since. The background image on this page was made from the so-called "official" picture of the first shootout. It shows Jorgy! and George squaring off for history's first Mavica shootout. Fortunately, the only violence done that day was when Jorgy! devoured a rather large plate of extra spicy buffalo wings...[g] - or so Craig and George reported. Ever since, the "shootout" has become a Mavican tradition that is associated with food, fun & Mavican photography.
