Founded 1881

Mawdsleys was founded in 1881 by Mr Walter Mawdsley and is one of the longest-established firms in Southport. It has occupied its present prestigious premises on Lord Street since 1967. There is ample parking for clients visiting the office.

As a general practice with established traditions the firm places great emphasis on the breadth and quality of its legal advice and on the level of personal service offered.

The office makes extensive use of P.C.'s for word-processing, accounts, direct access to the banking network and the Land Registry and e-mail. There is a 6-line state-of-the-art digital telephone system.

Mawdsleys offers assistance with a wide range of legal problems including conveyancing, landlord and tenant (both domestic and commercial), wills and probate, matrimonial, road traffic accidents and business affairs.

Bereavement, divorce, and moving house are said to be the three most traumatic experiences which anyone can suffer.

At times like these it makes sense to have the services of someone who will not only look after your interests but will do so with sympathy and understanding.

Conveyancing is the process of transferring the ownership of property. The largest single cost on buying a property worth more than £60,000 is government stamp duty which starts at 1%. The rate increases on higher-priced properties. There will also be fees for searches (currently between £90 and £150 depending on locality) and for the Land Registry (the fee depends on the value of the property). The largest cost on selling will probably be the estate agent's fee.

This is the Last Will ...

Something like 70% of us die without making a will. This can cause both distress and financial problems to friends and family and lead to assets passing to remote relatives whom you may have had no dealings with for years or even to the State.

A properly drawn will may help in reducing Inheritance Tax payable on a death.
