The City of Newman was founded April 1888 and Incorporated June
10, 1908. Located on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley with
a population of 6,000 people. Newman has recently been recognized
as one of the valley's "Livable Places" by the State of
California.
Newman's Police Department has 11 sworn officers, 2 Reserves, and
4 support staff under the direction of the Chief, Michael Brady.

Service, and Integrity"
The Newman Police Department is charged with maintaining law
and order, and protecting life and property. The Department's
activities include prevention and detection of criminal activity,
apprehension of criminal offenders, recovery of property,
prevention of juvenile delinquency, enforcement of laws,
participation in court proceedings, protection of constitutional
guarantees, assisting those who cannot care for themselves or who
are in danger of physical harm, prevention of traffic accidents
and the regulation of traffic flow throughout the city, and
animal control within the city limits.
The Police Department is active in community involvement
with participation in the following programs:

The Police Department consists of the Chief, Administration
Lieutenant, and Patrol Sergeant.
The Chief of Police is Michael Brady. He
oversees the day to day business of the Department and gives
guidance to those under his direction. The Chief is responsible
for organizing the budget and to see that the budget is not over
spent in the course of the fiscal year. He is very community
oriented and is involved in several community organizations. He
has an open door policy for his officers and the community.
The Administration Lieutenant, Edward
Katen, assists the Chief with the day to day operations which
include, but are not limited to: budgeting, ordering equipment,
coordinator of code enforcement and "Crime Tip",
vehicle maintanence, direct supervisor of office staff, IA
investigator, and training manager.
The Patrol Sergeant, Charles Jones, is
the direct supervisor for all patrol officers. It is his
responsibility to give direction and guidance to the officers.
His duties include back ground investigations, Reserve
coordinator, and field training officer supervisor, and any other
duties assigned by the Chief.

Department's web page. At this time I am placing and pulling
information to familarize myself with how to develop the site. I
have a set idea on format and when complete this will be linked
to the city web site.Check back now and then to see the
