Thank you for visiting my Colbran Genealogy and Family Tree site.

If you have any information on the family or you are a descendent of William, John, Thomas or James please visit their story page and do a search of my data base.

The Colbran name has been spelt in many ways over the years, mainly because of the literacy of the priest, or person, transcribing the occurrence details, and the illiteracy of the person giving the information. The transcriber would spell the name that they thought was said, and because the informant didn't know the correct spelling would not or could not correct the record. The name has been spelt Colebran, Collebrond, Colbron, Colbrond, Collbran, Collbrand, Colburn, Colbourn, Colbourne, Coalbran and probably another half dozen that I have forgotten, however, today the accepted spelling is, Colbran.

The family in Australia appears to stem from three people, William, John and Thomas and in Canada from James. At least three of these men are descendants of Edward Colbrand and Barbara Wood who married at Warbleton, Sussex on February 4th, 1706, and they are William and John in Australia and James in Canada.

The descendents of William and his first wife Philadelphia Bailey, together with those of William and his second wife Lydia Milgate, settled mainly in Sydney's southern suburbs and on the New South Wales south coast. The descendents of John and his wife Jane Honeysett located mainly in the central west of New South Wales mainly around Dubbo and Orange. The descendents of Thomas and his wife Mary Maloney also located in the central west around Orange and Molong. If you know the story of Thomas and his wife Mary Maloney or you know that you are a descendent of his children I want to talk to you. Thomas is said to have had about a dozen children, however only about four lived. His Son John, who married Leticia Butler might ring a bell, I really hope so. If you descend from Thomas and Mary please contact me.

The descendents of James and his wife Mary Honeysett are located in and around Toronto, Ontario Canada and I would like more detail from our Canadian "relatives".

I can't claim to have done all of the research myself and without the help given by other people researching the family tree I would not have progressed as quickly. I thank all of those contributors and all of the family members who have willingly given information and time, I still need your help.

I'm only an amateur at genealogy and I'm sure my work contains errors. If you have the knowledge to correct my mistakes contact me.
