EJO - Awards and Public Service
HONORS, AWARDS, and PUBLIC SERVICE
Update: On February 8, 2003 in Denver, EJO was honored by the Latin American Educational Foundation. Edward received the Sol Trujillo National Leadership Award for his efforts on behalf of children and Latinos world-wide.
"I am crying out of joy, happiness and humbleness...There's only one race, and that's the human race - period. And within the human race there are many wonderful cultures."
On November 3, 2002, Oneness, a non-profit organization promoting racial unity through music and the arts, did confer upon Edward a lifetime achievement award for his longstanding commitment to racial unity and nonviolent social change.
At the height of "Miami Vice" frenzie in 1988, I contacted Edward James Olmos. I was making a documentary movie on a school in Colombia, South America, and I asked Mr. Olmos if he would participate in the project. I didn't really expect that a star of his caliber would want to volunteer for a such a small project, and I was thrilled and delighted when he called me and agreed to help. Youth have always held a special place in the heart of Edward James Olmos. His concern for them has caused him to support organizations like Boys Club of America. He also makes a special effort to visit schools, colleges, and youth correction facilities.
