This year (2004-2005) is St. Mary’s P.A.D.S. 19th season of serving meals and providing shelter to the homeless of our community. St. Mary’s was the very first P.A.D.S. site, opening in 1985. Today, over 100 congregations operate the various P.A.D.S. Emergency Overnight Shelters. *************************** Thanks to all those who have made a monetary, time, clothing and/or food donation, making this Christmas was a little more pleasant for the homeless. **************************** St.
Mary’s P.A.D.S. program starts at the
beginning of October and continues to service the community until the end of
April. We have six teams involving
over 300 volunteers. Each team works
approximately five Friday nights (or Saturday mornings, dependent upon the
crew). St. Mary’s is able to assist an
average of fifty homeless people each Friday night at our site.
*************************** Whether you are a past volunteer ready to come back or a new volunteer ready to get started, working with the homeless is a very humbling, rewarding experience. The program needs your help, so please give this ministry serious consideration. If you would like to volunteer or make a donation, please contact Mary Beth Lueken at (630) 969-6160 or e-mail us and we will be in contact as soon as possible. |
