This '82 Turbo Fuego was bought with 95,000 miles on it and taken well past 209,000 miles. Click on the pictures for less small examples.
The engine setup was pretty much left alone as being good enough. The suspension took a little work to satisfy special requirements. The tongue weight of the trailer crushed the rear coils so a new set for a Sportwagen were fitted. When the Konis went on it raised the front end so an afternoon was spent shortening the bottom of the shocks to get the nose down again.
The turbo made it an amazing tow car capable of maintaining 70 mph on the hilly interstate highways of Pennsylvania. If held to a more reasonable speed, 21 mpg could be gotten with the car and trailer on the back. The main drawback to all this was the prohibition against running the air conditioning while towing.
I had come to the conclusion that the cars looked best in light colors. So when a friend at work wanted to unload this '82 I had to take it.
