The RAMBO FAMILY TREE by Beverly Nelson Rambo 26 May 2006. 2nd edition, final pre-publication draft by Ron Beatty http://members.aol.com/RamboBook RAMBO12.TXT is the name of this file. It covers only one fifth of one generation of Rambos. This is not a web page. It is ASCII, one of 50 Rambo text files. If you view this file in a web browser (like Internet Explorer), the text runs off the right edge of the screen (and you cannot specify "word wrap"). You will need to save this file to disk and use any word processor to view it. If you find one ancestor, but have trouble finding earlier ancestors, read the "Introduction" web page. The file APPENDIX.TXT explains the numbering system. Notice that each earlier generation has one less digit in the number. If a family had more than nine children, the tenth child is numbered "A," the eleventh "B," and so on. The web site contains much more information about Rambos, genealogy, and the forthcoming book. Check the "Introduction" page there first and proceed as appropriate. Generally you will find no mention of living persons on the web or in the book. If you do want to see your name in print or on the web, you must send me an explicit request. All Rambo descendants, regardless of surname, are encouraged to send their ancestry for inclusion in the third edition of the book. Contact rsbeatty@gmail.com, but be patient as my e-mail is neglected for months at a time. If you knew the amount of work involved in this effort and the number of correspondants you'd understand. (My personality defects exacerbate the problem.) The file ENDNOTES.TXT contains the list of references. Within the paragraphs about your ancestor, you may see numbers enclosed in parenthesis, such as this: (589) or this: (589),, p. 32) These numbers correlate to a reference number in the file ENDNOTES.TXT. See the web page "Introduction" for an explanation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The children of [#1211] George and Sophie (North)(Davis) McElhaney, her second husband, [daughter of Ann (Rambo) North, Peter, Gunnar, Peter] were Hannah, Ann, Lydia, Elizabeth, and Sophie. 12112. Koplin, his first wife, [son of Mary (Rambo) Koplin, Peter, Gunnar, Peter] were Matthias and Betsy. 12221. MATTHIAS KOPLIN "was born in Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania by 1775, to his father's first wife, name unknown. He went with his father to Frederick Co., Maryland about 1778 and married MARGARET thought to be Margaret KIEFFER, daughter of a neighbor, by 1796 when their first child was born. Margaret Keiffer was born 1 Nov 1771, a daughter of Ludewig and Anna Margaret (Sprenckel) Kieffer.(733),, Ludewig Kieffer Bible record) ( Details: No stringent proof of this best guess.) Matthias was taxed in Cumberland Township, York Co., Pennsylvania [now Adams Co.] in 1795 as Matthias, Jr. He appears in Bedford Co., PA tax records between 1801 and 1807, then in Huntingdon Co., PA, first in Union Township, later in Henderson Township, where he was a road supervisor and constable. In the spring of 1825, Matthias and Margaret, his wife, sold their 225 acres of land (with a distillery) and moved, with their unmarried children to still wild Chippewa Township, Wayne Co., Ohio. The two married sons came west a little later, but there are marriage records for the rest of the children in Ohio. Three of these children married three children of neighbors Lawrence and Anna Maria (Kreutz) Baughman who had migrated from Lowhill Township, Northampton Co., PA [now Lehigh Co.] to Trumbull Co., Ohio sometime between 8 Jan 1804 and 21 Dec 1805 (children's births). On 16 Feb 1815, Lorantz Bauchman paid $351.00 for 117 acres in Portage Co., Ohio [now Medina Co.] just across the county line from Wayne Co., Ohio where the Koplins settled in 1825. The Koplins and the Baughmans were active Reformed members of the nearby Emmanuel Church, a German Lutheran and Reformed union church, sometimes called Waltz Church, sometimes High Church. Matthias was elected as a Vorsteher (deacon) just a year after he left PA, and Lawrence had been elected an elder in 1817. Matthias and Margaret are not buried in the Emanuel Church cemetery, however. Margaret is on the list of burials at a Doylestown cemetery, a few miles away, and no doubt Matthias is buried there, too." She died 30 Apr 1840, aged 68. "There is no receipt from daughter Rachel and her husband, for her inheritance, altho she was still alive, but living in a different county. Matthias died in 1847; Margaret died in 1840." "Reunions of descendants of Matthias and Margaret Koplin were held near Akron, Ohio from 1894 to 1915, and the original minutes are held by a third great grandaughter. Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio also has an original manuscript about the reunions which also lists children and grandchildren, many with addresses to the early 1900's."(733),, letters of 20 Feb 2001, 11 Oct 2002, edited) They had these children: 122211. POLLY (Mary) KOPLIN was born about 1782 and probably died before 1860. She married JACOB NOSS by 1810. According to his biography, Polly and her husband started for Illinois about 1818, but stopped in Beaver Co., Pennsylvania for the winter and decided to stay. He was married and taxed for one cow in 1816. He and his wife MARY (?) had four sons and a daughter by 1825. Mary was head of the household with five children in 1830. The obituary for the youngest son says that in 1829 he traveled with his widowed mother in a caravan from Newton Hamilton, Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania to Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Mary and three of the children are buried in Johnstown.(733),, letter of 11 Oct 2002) 12227. RACHEL KOPLIN was born about 1792 and married SAMUEL NEICE by 1 Jan 1815. Rachel signed the deed when the sheriff sold their sawmill in 1845, but she was missing from the 1850 census.(733),, letter of 11 Oct 2002) 12228. NANCY KOPLIN was born about 1796 and married JACOB B. SHOOP in Feb or Mar 1812. Jacob Shoop rented his father-in-law's property near Newton Hamilton on the Juniata River in Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania. (Beware of biting ants in the cemetery).(733),, letter of 11 Oct 2002) 12229. SUFFIA (Sophia) KOPLIN was born about 1796 and married WILLIAM RODDY, probably after 1825. Sophia and William had seven children, some born in Newton Hamilton, Pennsylvania, and some born after the family moved to Shade Gap, Huntington Co., Pennsylvania around 1838. Three of the children married and moved to Kansas. Sophia died 3 May 1874. He and Elizabeth (Hillsbury) Koplin are buried in the Newton Hamilton Methodist Cemetery.
